LONDON (AP) - British actor Hugh Laurie was made a member of the Order of the British Empire Wednesday.
The Queen presented the honour to Laurie at Buckingham Palace.
The Golden Globe award winner has enjoyed enormous success for his role as a brilliant but flawed doctor in the U.S. television drama "House," but in Britain he has been a member of the comedy establishment for more than 20 years.
Laurie, 47, was a member of the Cambridge Footlights comedy group along with actress Emma Thompson and fellow actor-writer-director Stephen Fry.
Fry and Laurie landed their own sketch show, "A Bit Of Fry And Laurie" in 1987. The two also starred in "Jeeves and Wooster," a hugely popular television version of P.G Wodehouse's comic stories - Laurie as the hapless Bertie Wooster, and Fry as his inimitable valet Jeeves.
Laurie's film roles include "Sense And Sensibility," "Peter's Friends" and "Stuart Little."
