Believe it or Not, "1408" Might Actually Be Good.

When I first saw the trailer for "1408" way the heck back in winter, I was not looking forward to it at all. It looked as though it had a chance to surprise, but in the end it looked like stereotypical, lame, PG-13 thriller crap that Hollywood has been pumping out so often recently. Well "Disturbia" may have started a trend of decency with this genre of films because at this point, "1408" has a 100% tomatometer on rottentomatoes.com with 13 reviews published on the site. while this is still a fairly low number of reviews, rarely do movies stay at 100% past 4 or 5 reviews. So far it's looking good for the thriller and I might actually end up seeing it if the reviews stay this good. Any thoughts? Surprised?

Very good.

Intriguing treatment of the story. Adaptations of Stephen King novels/novellas are often diappointing when brought to the screen but this one delivered. If you're watching it as a non-stephen king reader, it's still a very good movie - pace, intrigue, love, loss, 'an evil f***ing room'.

Excellent performances from Samuel L. Jackson (of whom I'm not generally a fan)and Cusack (who proves that his best work comes from his inherent cynicsm).

It was pretty bad.

If the director had any idea how to develop a character, it might have stood a fighting chance. Instead, we see all the typical movie garbage about overcoming obstacles in your life through a supernatural phenomenon. John Cusack (spelling?) looked too much like his annoying sister (I think they're related, otherwise it's a sad coincidence) for me to care much about any of his characters anyways. I kept expecting it to break into a cell phone service commercial.

The director simply took a basic formula and added a bunch of gory and surprising crap to make it seem scary.

Don't see it unless you're looking for a comedy.

I loved it, it reminded me a little of the Silent Hill movie, which i loved with a passion, but they didn't do as well as they could have with it. 1408 has everything the others don't, and do. Suspense, a bit of comedy... it's a genuinely disturbing movie, for once. It's both in your face "BOO" style, and "holy **** what the heck is going on!?" sorts, you know, phycological terror sort of thing. I don't think there is anyway to improve on it, it was just that good, i know i'm gonna buy it when it comes out!

I saw it on Friday. It was pretty darn good for a PG-13 thriller. It was very creepy the whole time, and at times it got a little scary, but mostly it was interesting, and original. I've never seen anything like it. It kept me on the edge of my seat with its intensity the whole movie as well. Good stuff...

It was an o.k. movie but I expected it to be better. Previews made it look really scary but it was just o.k.
