Friday Box-Office Estimates: Evan Almighty Underperforms, 1408 Does Better Than Expected

Posted by antichessclub5423 327 days ago
The Friday estimates are in and Evan Almighty looks to make a fairly dismal 30 or so million. It opened to just 11 million on opening day, on pace to make, as I said before, 30 million, and it was expected to make a little over 40. It's also rumored that the movie cost 200 million to make. But still, it will be number 1 this weekend.

1408 was estimated to make about 15 million, by most this weekend. Well opening day it made a little over 7 million, putting it on pace to open to an impressive 21 million.

Fantastic Four 2 made just 6 million on Friday putting it on pace to make 18 or so million, in other words dropping a massive 68% from its first weekend tally of 58 million.

Anyway, here's the full list of estimates from friday in millions.

1. Evan Almighty 11.1

2. 1408 7.5

3. Fantastic Four 2 6.0

4. Ocean's Thirteen 3.5

5. Knocked Up 3.3

6. Pirates 3 2.0

7. Surf's Up 1.9

8. Shrek 3 1.7

9. Nancy Drew 1.5

10. A Mighty Heart 1.1

With the huge Evan budget, and the fact that it will now likely only make like 90 million if its lucky (generally movies with really bad reviews will do less than the norm where the opening weekend is a third of the final gross.)

1408 only cost 25 million to make, so its a major success. Because of its high reviews and user ratings everywhere, I'd guess that if it does make 21 or so million this weekend, it'll likely finish up with 75 million, considering that its summer and all, and weekly grosses are higher than normal.

Fantastic Four 2 took a not so fantastic fall, that would honestly be the biggest BO drop of the summer thus far, and it would also be in the top 10 all time biggest drops... says something about people maybe not liking Fantastic Four (the first one was dreadful, I have no plans on seeing number 2)

Ocean's is pretty much dropping normally and will likely finish its box office run at about 120 million or so.

Knocked Up will finish with 130 mil.

I think they took a risk with the Evan budget - but its a shame nobody took their time to see it, it looks like a nice family film, and i've heard good and bad things, i hope it has a greater DVD success.
