Bay Rejects Transformers 2?

Bay Rejects Transformers 2?

Posted by Kakaroto24 852 days ago
August 21, 2007 - Yesterday's announcement by Paramount and DreamWorks that they are exclusively supporting the HD DVD format has lost them the support of at least one very important filmmaker: Transformers director Michael Bay.

In a message board posting (entitled "Paramount pisses me off!") at his official site, Bay wrote, "I want people to see my movies in the best formats possible. For them to deny people who have Blu-ray sucks! They were progressive by having two formats. No Transformers 2 for me!"

this is not the first time movie studios have done things like this. for anyone who remembers the Beta players that came out and were competition to the VHS players (thats VCRs to all you young people out there) one of the major movie companies who also had financial interest in the VHS said they would not put thier movies on Beta. it killed Beta. its too bad too Beta was a far supior product over the VHS I think paramount is trying to kill the blueray like the Beta. I personally have not used a Blueray but I do like the HD DVD. well I hope M Bay starts something and we can keep both formats.

This is a bit hard to argue about! it would cost the companies involved way too much money to produce the films in both formats. they need completely different production facilities for both formats.
I have not yet seen a film availible on both formats! the plus side to hd dvd is tht the players will play old dvds so ppl are more likely to go for that option plus it is cheaper than blueray! Its a hard one, but I do think 1 format will eventually have to succeed and one will have to fall! I don't want to miss out on some of my favourite films but it is the way it is for now!

The news that Decepitcon24 is bullshit i just been to Bay's official site and he says transformers 2 is on

"As a director, I'm all about people seeing films in the best quality possible, and I saw and heard firsthand people upset about a corporate decision.

So today I saw 300 on HD-DVD, it rocks!

So I think I might be back on to do Transformers 2!"

  • Wow, first off, theres no difference's in a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD's. I own a HD player, and i have a friend that owns a Blu-Ray player. I think M.Bay shouldn't worrie about what Paramount or DreamWorks has planed. There's gonna be all formats put out, Blu-Ray might be a couple of months behind. M.Bay should do the movie's for the people, not on DVD fomats. If M.Bay is worried about that, then he should buy everyone a HD player or a Blu-Ray player, plus the Transformer disks, so every one can enjoy it!

  • This just goes to show that the studios are only interested in -ONE- thing. And that's money. Limiting the release of a blockbuster such as this film is completely ridiculous. Anyone who owns a PS3 or Blu-Ray player has to be up in arms over this. I own a PS3 and have been looking forward to the release of this summer's blockbusters ON Blu-Ray. I've stopped buying regular DVD's because if anyone's seen a Blu-Ray, it puts pretty much everything else to shame. I have to applaud Bay for standing up for what he believes, even if it means I don't get to enjoy a sequel to this amazing movie. It's nice to see someone not just pushed around by the industry, all because they want to think they know what's best for consumers.

  • Oh ok, nevermind, I understand this now. But still, who gives a shit? If Micheal Bay wants to be a stupid fuck and miss making another like, 50. mil, just because he has a stick up his ass about Blu-Ray, then that's his problem.

  • This news doesn't make sense. It says that Paramount and Dreamworks are exclusively supporting Blu-Ray, HiDef whatever, but then Bay says hes all pissed. Besides, you can't really tell the fucking difference between HiDef and regular TV or movies or whatever. What a scam!

  • I am usually pretty sceptical about anyone making movies of the cartoons that I used to watch as a kid. I was incredibly suprised when I saw this movie. Michael Bay did a great job on it. I don't understand why they would only release it on HD and DVD, and not blu-ray. I don't have blu-ray, but I think that everyone should have a chance to own a copy of this movie. I hope he changes his mind about Trans~2. I am looking forward to Trans~1's release and 2 to come out in theatres. Again, excellent movie. Saying well done, just doesn't begin to say it.

  • What!! You have to make a second one! It was so good, the only real bad part was the fact that it was too focused on that stupid kid and his rly hott girlfriend! Like it's called Transformers... you could've at least had more scenes about them in it, like the movie from the eighties!

  • Wow, you people don't watch very many movies to consider Transformers & Vanilla Sky as 2 of the worst films of all time ( or the best for that matter )!

Transformers wasn't one of my favorites of the Summer, but it sure wasn't as bad as everyone seems to think. The Autobots themselves lacked a little in the personality department, but the story was decent, and the CGI was one of the best ever!

  • God bless Michael, but does he seriously think that Paramount are going to turn down $150 million (the figure supposedly offered by the HD-DVD camp to back their format), if it's offered to them on a plate.

Worst case scenario, if Blu-Ray comprehensively quashes HD-DVD over the holiday season, they'll find some way to release their 2007 slate on the format that wins.

Bay is increasingly something of a tool, but I still love most of his movies.

  • part 1 was soooo bad that it had to be michael bays fault, being that he sucks so very much. lets face it transformers was and always will be the worst movie of all time, followed by donnie darko, brokeback mountain, the english patient, hannibal, vanilla sky, garden state, and kull the conqueror.
if bay is not attached at all to a sequel than i would be willing to see it. of course with bay's history of hissy fits in front of producers, he may get his way. thats what he does, he gets mad if someone says no to him. he does his little pouty face and threatens to quit whatever movie he's working on until he gets his way. don't believe me? listen to the commentary tracks for bad boys and armageddon and then try to call me a liar. michael bay is the worst director of all time, period.

  • First off, no great loss (Bay sucks!!!). Maybe they will find someone that can make a GOOD Transformers movie. Second, Blu-ray isn't that great. Most of the movies they have out for Blu-ray aren't very good and the picture quality is barely better than a regular DVD (The Fifth Element). I'll admit Blu-ray is getting better, but not better than HDDVD.

  • sorry to stick to Ray, but BluRay is better than HD. That's also why it is winning in popularity (compared to HD). Perseption is all that matters!

  • If he acts like a brat when he doesn't get his way, I highly doubt if people will want to work with him. If he really felt bad about what happened he shouldn't have "mouth-ed off" about Paramount. What an idiot.

posted by jacobblust 852 days ago
  • Frankly I don't think there should be a Transformers 2. I loved the first one but making another could be milking the franchise and ruin what made the first awesome. It was old fans of the cartoons such as myself that went to see it and truly appreciated what they did with the franchise. Making another will kill those memories and lose the true viewing audience.
