The actor Jude Law has finally caught up with critics and film audiences by admitting that his remake of the classic British comedy Alfie might have been better left as just a bright idea. Sitting beside Sir Michael Caine, whose original interpretation of the fly womaniser won five Oscar nominations in 1966, Law accepted that his crack at the part nearly 40 years later had irretrievably flopped.
The remake, which copied most of the original techniques including asides to the camera by Law, was a turkey at the box office. It has since featured regularly in moviegoers' and critics' compilations of the worst film remakes of all time.
