David R Ellis (Snakes on a Plane) has signed to direct and develop "Final Destination 4," the latest installment of New Line's popular horror series, which the studio plans to shoot in 3-D.

Ellis directed the second installment, which was praised for its elaborately orchestrated killings. He will reunite with writer Eric Bress.

The premise of the series is that even if you cheat death once, a force that is death itself will stalk you until it finishes what is started, usually in a gruesome fashion. While plot details for "FD4" are being kept under wraps, the movie will stand alone: It will feature new teens facing new forms of death.

The "Final Destination" films have been solid performers for New Line since they debuted in 2000. The first film grossed $53.3 million, the 2003 sequel made $46.5 million and the third, released in 2006, collected $54 million. The movies usually are made for at least half that and do well on home video.

If only they could make this crap for a smaller budget, then I would be impressed by them. As it stands these films are terrible. Pap masquerading as clever contrivance.

the first 2 were very good (to me; the second has the best highway crash sequence ever) but the 3rd seemed pointless. it was just the same story of the 1st one with a rollercoaster instead of a plane
the 2nd sort of continued in that the survivors somehow were linked to the events from the 1st film.
just bring it, but not a poor story...it takes more than great effects, nude scenes to make a movie great (hint...3rd one) a good storyline also helps. All the best to David R Ellis & Eric Bress + the production team
