About a week ago, we reported that Christian Bale was cast as John Connor in the upcoming "Terminator" film. Now, CHUD has learned that the role of Connor will not be the lead, but actually a supporting one. He still leads the rebellion against the machines, but there will be a different character at the center.

In the movie, the role of Conner will be in a full-scale war between Skynet and humankind. For those of you who don't remember, he was the unborn son in the first "Terminator" film, who was set to be killed along with his mother by Arnold's character, so he doesn't grow up to be the leader of the human resistance against the machines.

A screenplay for the new film has been completed by "Terminator 3" scribes John Brancato and Michael Ferris. It is scheduled to hit theaters sometime in 2009.

    I think anything Christian Bale's in adds an element that viewers recognize automatically. You can tell that whatever he's in he throw his whole being into
    (i.e.Machinist, Rescue Dawn...) His fans see it, and even those who aren't 'fans' see the difference in his acting as well. I think "Terminator" is going to be an enjoyment to a lot of people!!!
    I'm excited to see this film...it'll be the first "Terminator" I've seen...

    Creatively, this is a step backward for him. The first two Terminator films are action classics that I take seriously. The third was a "need cash" decision for studios just like this film will be.
