AOL's Black Voices has learned from Cedric the Entertainer that Beyoncé (Dreamgirls) is set to play famed singer Etta James in Sony BMG's Cadillac Records, written and to be directed by Darnell Martin.

The film explores Chicago in the 1950s, charting the colorful lives of American musical legends like Muddy Waters, Chess, Little Walter, Howlin' Wolf and Elvis Presley. Adrien Brody, Jeffrey Wright, Columbus Short, Emmanuelle Chriqui and Tammy Blanchard co-star.

Filming will take place in New Jersey and Mississippi.

    OMG... it REALLY makes me SAD that they casted Beyonce for this role! I mean really!

    Etta...

    1. Was a beautiful plus-sized woman
    2. She was an old soul
    3. Her style of music was COMPLETELY & TOTALLY DIFFERENT
    4. Let's keep it real, Bey isn't really all that great an actress. I mean YES she can torch a stage... but acting isn't her strong suit!

    Bad casting,really bad casting...Etta James was not stunningly beautiful and had a voice that despite B's musical talent she cannot replicate or do it justice. There are so many African American women who could carry this role off in a stellar fashion-Beyonce is not one of them.

    You do know that Etta James is a robust woman...i'm sure in her old age Beyonce' will join her. But this is the most absurb match every. Why does hollywood keep trying to push her acting career, didn't they get it when the fat girl won the oscar and not Beyonce'. Goes to show you what money can buy.
