Director Gives "Mortal Kombat" Update

Moviehole got the chance to speak to director mink (Into the Sun) revealing that the upcoming "Mortal Kombat" movie is a "re-invisioning" of the franchise and is still in the early stages. "The Producers are working out their deals with the studio and arranging their financing," he said.

"Today's audience is a savvy involved group so the film must be A plus plus in every area in order to capture the magic of the first film," mink continued. "It is taking the entire concept to the next level across the board in every area visual design, story, cast, FX, photography and most importantly the fighting scenes. The original Mortal Kombat game was born a child of many visual loves by the creators at midway so this latest version borrows heavily from that pioneering spirit and must be thought out and executed at the highest level in order for it succeed in today's market place. This is no overnight task."

The director also stated that casting has yet to begin, making the rumor that Christopher Lambert would return as Rayden just that, a rumor. "First things first, is the way these larger projects need to be done. It is still in the business stages but once that is squared away all casting options will be explored along with the continued development of the best story line."

Hmmm, yeah, the first movies were crap, pretty much like anything based on a video game. I dont see why that mink guy would be able to do anything good with a film that has no potential. He directed Steven Seagal in a film in 2005, that should say it all.

It will be interesting to see how this will turn out. The first two films weren’t the greatest, but they weren’t a disaster by any means, like Street Fighter. This is going to be a long wait, but I hope it will be worth it.

WOW...never thought they'd come out with a "re-invisioning" growing up in that generation and loving the games I honestly think they'll be able to pull it off even though the first movie was a favorite for the fans. It shall be interesting indeed, can't wait.
