Universal Confirms 4th "Bourne" Movie

Variety posted an extensive article about the future of Universal Studios, now that the writers strike is over. Apparently, the studio will launch several high-profile projects, which include several franchises. One of those franchises is the "Bourne" series, which both Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass have agreed to return for.

The article states: "Shmuger and Linde landed Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon for a fourth "Bourne" movie, even though the director and star seemed ready to wrap it up after three pics."

It has been recently reported that Damon has changed his mind about returning for a fourth installment, even though he seemed very confident during the 2007 Cannes interview. "I'm definitely done with that. I think we've ridden that horse as far as we can. The character lives on in the books and if someone else wanted to play it it, I guess they could."

According to the following numbers, Universal would be crazy to turn down this lucrative and well received franchise. "Bourne Identity" earned $214 million theatrically on a $60 million budget. "Bourne Supremacy" earned $288 million theatrically, on a $75 million budget. And "Bourne Ultimatum" made over $442 million theatrically on a $110 million.

    I am looking forward to it myself,I dont think they would go forward with it,I don't think Matt would,if it wasn't going to have promise.=)

    Oh, joy... The original series was three books that Ludlum wrote. Fine. They have "made" those into movies now, let it go. Van Lusterbader wrote a "fourth" book after Ludlum died, let the series rest in peace please.

    its cool that they're maikn a new bourne movie.....but they should try not to change the story of the book so much....i mean bourne identity was ok, but supremacy and ultimatum were way off the track...it was like there was a new series!

  • That is awesome. I am really excited to hear of this news-even though you always worry int he back of your mind if it flops will it ruin the series. So far according to the $$ it is clear that the interest is there- lets hope that rather then going all out dollar wise doesn't make it overhyped and underacted. i love there series and would hate to see it fall apart...but truth is the last just couldn't end there. I think one more with a really great FINAL ending would be ideal..and I want to find out if there was involvement with Jason and the Julia Styles charater.

  • I CAN'T WAIT!! omg if matt damon is doing a fourth bourne movie...i will be the first in line!! That series is my favorite series!! And it wouldn't be right if matt damon wasn't in it.. if there was somebody else in the role it wouldn't be the same!! =]
