Despite some of their biggest members - like George Clooney - begging them to get to the negotiating table ASAP, SAG has announced they won't be ready to start talking with AMPTP until April. If there's no deal set by the middle of April, new movie production will essentially shut down, since no one wants to still be shooting in June should the actors go on strike.
Hollywood is sick of strikes, and I don't know why SAG is so insistent on flexing their muscles right now. As the nation heads into a recession, the only industry that weathers such economic storms with ease is looking to chip away at its own bottom line.
