Jim Carrey Talks Upcoming Projects!

At the Horton Hears a Who press conference this morning, Jim Carrey talked about a number of upcoming projects including A Christmas Carol, I Love You Phillip Morris, and Ripley's Believe It Or Not.

A Christmas Carol is set for a Christmas 2009 release and features Jim Carrey as Ebeneezer Scrooge as well as the ghosts of past, present and future. In production now, the film is being shot with the same motion-capture technology that director Robert Zemeckis used on Beowulf and The Polar Express.

Says Carrey of the motion-capture shooting experience:

"You're literally in an empty warehouse with cameras around you and you have maybe an empty frame of a fireplace or something like that. You rehearse and they say, 'Can we take this away?' and your let sitting in a chair. You have to create an entire world in your head. And not only that, but you're working with other actors in this ridiculous mocap suit with balls all over it and a hat with pincers that come down with cameras in your face... The real work of it is transcending the lack of all stimuli and the ignoring the stimuli right in front of your face."

The story, he promises, will stay very true to the original book by Charles Dickens. "It's kind of a classical version of A Christmas Carol," says Carrey, "I'm playing Ebeneezer Scrooge at four different ages so there's a lot of vocal and physical things I have to do. Not to mention doing the accents properly.

As for the postponed and reportedly canceled Ripley's Believe it or Not biopic with Tim Burton, Carrey reported, "I don't know. It's definitely still in the works. It's maybe a little ways off, but we're definitely talking about it."

His very next project, though is I Love You, Phillip Morris which he describes as being, "...about a gentleman who fell in love with his cell mate in Texas and escaped from prison four times, trying to find a way to get his lover out of prison. It's an out-there concept."
