Alec Baldwin has criticised his younger brother Stephen for his comments about gay marriage.

The 30 Rock star objected to his sibling's suggestions that same-sex weddings weren't "in line" with the Bible.

Born-again Christian Stephen told US DJ Howard Stern: "I don't believe that gay marriage is in line with God's word, which is found in the Bible...and the Bible says that gay marriage is not acceptable."

Alec has distanced himself from the row and written a letter to gay magazine Advocate disagreeing with Stephen.

He said: "People like that...they want to ban gay marriage because those people are incapable of having a biological family - that's their only argument.

"You can ban gay marriage, but if you're going to make it fair, then you have to ban marriage for everybody else who won't produce children. But they just single out groups of people that they hate."

    Good for Stephen Baldwin!! Myself, having the same beliefs as Stephen, find it to be awesome for standing up not only to another actor, but also to his own brother. I glad Stephen did this, not only for himself, but for every other Christian celeb, but also for those who are not, so we can be inspired by this so we can do it ourselves
