PADMA Lakshmi may finally be over Salman Rushdie. Lakshmi, who took billion-heir Adam Dell as her date to the South Beach Wine & Food Festival, ran into her ex-husband Tuesday at the Cinema Society screening of "Sleepwalking." "They were seated about six feet apart, and there seemed to be uncomfortable silence for a while," said our spy. "Salman came up and shook her hand, but she seemed to be more into Skeet Ulrich." Meanwhile, the film's star, Charlize Theron, revealed she's a huge fan of "Top Chef," which Lakshmi hosts, and did a spot-on impersonation of Lakshmi at the Soho Grand after-party. Theron dazzled in Dior, but the dress was a last-minute replacement after her luggage was lost en route to Chicago for an Oprah taping.

PAUL Newman, 83, was conspicuously absent Monday night at the 20th anniversary of his Hole in the Wall Gang charity, which runs summer camps for ill children. And some in the audience at City Center were worried, especially in light of tabloid reports that the beloved actor had secret cancer surgery in January. Newman quipped through his spokesman, Warren Cowan, at the time: "I'm being treated for athlete's foot and hair loss . . . maybe the doctors know something that I don't." Cowan told Page Six this week that Newman planned to attend the Hole in the Wall event with Renée Zellweger, Julia Roberts, Harry Belafonte, Bernadette Peters and Carole King. "But he's been having trouble with his back," Cowan said. "The doctors told him to stay off his feet." Newman was at the racetrack in Lime Rock, Conn., last week being filmed by Barbara Walters for an ABC special on longevity.

RAPPER Fat Joe likes to run his fat mouth. The Grammy winner gives a blow-by-blow account of a fistfight he had in a North Carolina hotel room with Brooklyn rapper Papoose in the new Hip Hop Weekly, on stands today. "We pounded him out, we pounded his DJ out. His DJ went to the hospital," Joe says. "His right-hand man's lip looked like a 18-wheeler's tire. He's [Papoose] balled up in the corner. I'm thinkin' he learned his lesson, but I'm noticing now you gotta really comatose these dudes for them to really learn."
