Harry Potter star Dame Maggie Smith 'battling breast cancer'

Harry Potter star Dame Maggie Smith is reported to be battling breast cancer.
The 73-year-old veteran actress is understood to have had chemotherapy while filming as Minerva McGonagall in the latest Potter film. A spokesman for the star said: "We never comment on our client's private lives." But a friend said: "She is dealing with it in her typically brave and understated way.
"She has had a tumour removed and subsequently completed a course of chemotherapy.
"This was precautionary and the prognosis looks good. The last thing she wants to do is to make a fuss about it."
Dame Maggie, who began her career at Oxford Playhouse, has been performing for over 50 years.
She won a best actress Oscar for The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie in 1970 and a supporting actress Oscar for California Suite in 1979. But it was the Potter films which brought her to a whole new - and younger - audience.
On set she was loved by all the cast, particularly Emma Watson, 17, who played Hermione. She said Dame Maggie always brought her chocolates every Christmas.
Along with Robbie Coltrane, she's said to be the only actor requested by author JK Rowling Her next film, From Time To Time, is an adaptation of the Lucy M.

Reports suggest filming has been put back as Dame Maggie completes her treatment.
The actress married playwright Beverley Cross in 1975. He died in 1998.
Her son, Toby Stephens, from her first marriage, played a Bond villain in Die Another Day.
