Demi Moore has revealed details of a detox treatment which involves submitting to the blood-sucking bite of the leech.
The actress told US talkshow host David Letterman that she discovered the leech therapy in Austria and plans to go back for more sessions.
"These aren't just swamp leeches though — we're talking about highly trained medical leeches," she said.
"These are not some low level scavengers, we're talking about high-level blood suckers."
Moore said that to prepare for her leech treatment she had to shave and bathe in turpentine.
The Striptease star said she used special breathing techniques she learned for giving birth to help her relax while the leeches crawled over her.
"It crawls in and you feel it bite down on you and you want to go, 'You bastard!’,” she said.
Moore said the enzyme released by a leech's bite causes "quite a bit of bleeding" but that it "optimized" her health.
