Superfreak Jay Leno and his puppet head made Ryan Phillippe really uncomfortable on the Tonight Show. He brought up Ryan's first starring role, as a gay teenager on One Life To Live. And then tried to get him to make a "gay look" at the camera. What the f*ck is that? You mean like do a lot of meth and go tanning and then face the camera? I'm kidding. I'm allowed to stereotype my beautiful people.
Anyway, Ryan was made a little uneasy by this creepy pig. I'm guessing Leno wanted Ryan to make his "gayest look" towards him. And follow it up with some Astroglide. Jay strikes me as one of those guys who's watching the next-door neighbor's son mow the lawn shirtless next door and playing with himself from behind the blinds.
Avenue Q writer Jeff Whitty, who's gay, was in the audience and blogged about the incident:
"Would you ask a guest to make their 'blackest face?' Their 'Jewiest face?' Why not?"
Whitty already had a run-in with Leno over his gay jokes two years ago when he wrote an open letter to him, and then met with him. I guess that didn't take.
And by the way, that was a CLASSIC soap opera storyline! Ryan Phillippe was Billy Douglas, who was Joey Buchanan's best friend. And Marty Sayebrooke spread the rumor that the reverend was molesting Billy when he was really just counseling him about his gayness. Yeah, it wasn't a Catholic church. Anyway, J. Harvey came out around the same time and I was totally into that storyline. Mainly because I was like "I'm gay, why the hell can't I look like HIM?"
