The scuttlebutt online is that Walt Disney Pictures and producer Jerry Bruckheimer may have found their Prince of Persia for the planned big-screen adaptation of the Ubisoft videogame to be directed by Mike Newell.
According to Latino Review, Oscar nominee Jake Gyllenhaal (Brokeback Mountain, Rendition, Zodiac) has been offered the title role of Dastan in Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.
The site doesn't claim that the actor has accepted the offer, and they also point out that Gyllenhaal recently injured his ankle so it's unclear if Disney would want to delay the action-packed film in order to allow the actor time to heal. Gyllenhaal is currently filming Brothers with Tobey Maguire.
Cinematical spoke with a Disney rep, who would neither confirm nor deny the Gyllenhaal rumor. The site did learn, however, that the casting of the two lead roles would be announced at the same time.
