Miley Cyrus says that she’s “embarrassed” about semi-topless photographs of herself in the June 2008 issue of Vanity Fair.

“I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be ‘artistic’ and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed,” says the 15-year-old Disney sensation, who posed with a blanket wrapped around her chest. “I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about.”

A Disney Channel spokesperson adds: “Unfortunately, as the article suggests, a situation was created to deliberately manipulate a 15-year-old in order to sell magazines.”

The Miley photos, which were taken by photographer Annie Leibovitz for Vanity Fair, hits newsstands next week.

UPDATE 1: People reports that Miley’s parents left before the final picture at the photo shoot but her grandmother and teacher were there.

Nobody, no matter their age, should pose if they are going to be this immodest...it's disgraceful. Many people, and most celebrities have lost their sense, if they pose for these kind of pictures.

The picture is beautiful but she is to young for this type of pose. There's nothing artisic about being semi naked. Being in your birthday suit should be natural and no makeup or airbrushing. She should had done this when she was 21, not 15.

I wonder why her parents left. Annie Leibovitz is the one of the best photographers but it's sad how this industry destroys children. I'm curious to what this article in Vanity Fair is about, maybe might be about image issues teens are facing.

Shame on Ms. Cyrus's parents, Disney Channel, and Annie Leibovitz. I hope Ms. Cyrus has learned from this mistake which was sure not her idea.

It's sad that industries only look at the $$$$$. Children need to be children while adults need to be parents first, instead of managers.

Take away the fame and notoriety, and this would be considered sexually exploitative,at the very least, given her age. However,I am most disgusted by the suggestion that she was duped into posing for such provocative photos, when her antics on webcam have been making the news.Where were her parents? They left...Wonderfully responsible parenting to say the least.Annie Liebowitz is probably one of the most gifted photographers in the world, trusted by many to represent them pictorally.I find it very hard to believe, that consents were not signed by the child and the guardians. When I think of the very young little girls who idolize this teen,it is really disturbing.Shame on her parents/guardians and shame on her.
