Matt here…I’m going to format this one as a proper review later but this had to go on the main page. It’s a huge story.
If there has been one guy who has been looking forward to Speed Racer more than anyone else over the past 18 months, it’s been OWF writer Ray DeRousse. Everytime I or someone else here would diss how the film was shaping up or would say phrases like “Not made for me” - he would be quick to defend it talking about how the Wachowski’s are such visionary directors and how it was shaping up just like the animated series.
Well the shocker has come. Ray has seen the movie and ******* loathes it. That’s a big deal. Is he too close to the universe that a slight tweak to the mythology from the Wachowski’s would forever **** him off - something which I can certainly attest to with Casino Royale (though I didn’t hate it).

Believe me, this is the most misguided attempt at a summer film since HULK, even though that was a decent film that simply didn’t fulfill genre expectations. It’s actually difficult to find comparative examples of atrocity. Maybe the Matthew Broderick version of GODZILLA? Maybe ISHTAR? I cannot overstate the wrongness of this entire production. It fails on almost every level.
A monumental disaster. Movie lovers can now relax; nothing this summer can fail worse than this.
