Rupert Everett considers himself the "Michael Palin of pornography".
The 'St. Trinians' actor is retracing controversial traveller Sir Richard Burton's steps in new documentary 'The Victorian Sex Explorer' where he meets Eunuchs, visits brothels in Bombay and dancing girls in Egypt.
He likened himself to Palin, a former 'Monty Python' comedian, who has since made his name exploring Africa, the US and Europe.
Everett said: "That's me. The Michael Palin of pornography."
The British actor - who is one of the few openly gay actors in Hollywood - also revealed the most fascinating part of his journey was discovering a tribe of castrated men.
He said: "Basically, they go into the forest, cut off their bits and cauterise themselves by throwing boiling oil on the stump."
The 49-year-old is also a massive believer in Burton's ethics and sexual exploration.
He added: "Burton was prepared to stand up and look at things differently. In his lifetime, he was always unpopular, distrusted for being too clever, too fast, a show-off.
"But looking at him now, he comes across as immensely cool and very much ahead of his time. Burton is a fascinating character."
