Oprah Winfrey told more than 4,000 Stanford University graduates on Sunday to harness their power to their passions, trust their hearts and stand for something greater than themselves.
Dressed in a black gown, white heels and red sash, Winfrey, Stanford's keynote commencement speaker, made her way to the stage with a few bodyguards. She then posed for pictures with students and delivered a 28-minute speech full of personal anecdotes and nuggets of New Age "Oprah-isms."
Stanford President John Hennessy gave Winfrey a laudatory introduction.
"Whether she is interviewing Nobel laureates or victims of abuse, getting the country excited about a good book, sharing an experience in O Magazine, or launching a new satellite radio channel, appropriately named 'Oprah and Friends,' Oprah Winfrey has demonstrated a zeal for learning, an extraordinary ability to connect with others and a commitment to helping make the world a better place," he said.
