While weighing in on the debate over the a possible strike by actors in Hollywood, Robert De Niro also said that he would like to make two sequels to the CIA Cold War drama "The Good Shepherd," which he directed. The first film would bring the action forward from 1961 to 1989, while the second would follow its hero, Edward Wilson (Matt Damon), up to the present day.
Although he is not working on research for the concluding parts of the hoped-for trilogy, De Niro said being in central Europe offered a good opportunity to begin thinking about the material.
"I had not been planning to do research on that while here, but it is a good idea," he said.
The first film was release late in 2006 and is about the tumultuous early history of the Central Intelligence Agency as viewed through the prism of one man's life. The movie earned close to $100 million in worldwide ticket sales.
De Niro also added that he is currently working with director Martin Scorsese on another film, which he refused to speak about in detail. All he said was that it should be ready by 2009.
