PUSH: Paul McGuigan, Camille Belle, Chris Evans, and Djimon Honsou showed up to talk about their riff on superhero movies. I wasn't 100% sure about the plot, but I think it's something to do with the children of dead psychics and they all have powers. Some can "push" (placing false memories in the brains of others). Some can "move" (moving objects with their minds). And some can scream at fish and make them explode. I'm not really sure what I thought of this movie, but nice points for using The Fountain score as a temp track.
KNOWING: Alex Proyas talked about his new movie, the apocalyptic tale that was originally going to be written and directed by Richard Kelly. Nicolas Cage decodes a seemingly random series of numbers buried in a time capsule 50 years prior. The numbers end up being an accurate prediction of every natural and unnatural disaster in the last 50 years...and there are three more incidents on the way. It seems very eerie and tense. I really like the cinematography and sense of dread. They showed an extended clip reel which was like the already released trailer only with a few scenes after the plane crash. I'm definitely going to check it out.
TWILIGHT: This may have been the worst hour of my life. Thousands of female Twilight fans screamed so loud that I got a migraine. The cast seemed really uncomfortable and in shock. I've never seen a more rabid fanbase. They make Browncoats look like mild mannered geeks. The audiences asked the following questions:
"How does it feel to be so sexy?"
"Why did you hire so many pretty guys for the movie?"
"Do you wear boxers or briefs?"
"How does it feel to be the sexiest guy in America?"
Oh my god. I had to leave in the middle of the panel and come back near the end. I appreciate passion, but Jesus Christ.
DISNEY
RACE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN: I've never seen the original film. They showed the trailer for the new one, and it's basically a mystery trailer with a lot of action, style, humor, and FX. The Rock looks like he's having a great time and Carla Gugino may be the hottest woman alive. They came out and didn't say a lot. You could just tell the director was a fun guy and a geek. They worked their ass off to make the action big, fun, and fresh. And The Rock can charm the shit out of any audience. This guy should be a salesman.
TRON 2: They premiered the teaser. No one saw this coming. Everyone lost their minds. It was all a blur. It started out with the Walt Disney logo and then it became old school and digital. We then saw a several minute long new lightcycle chase that kicked every ass in the audience. And then...Jeff Bridges shows up. And he's the villain. I need to see it again. I was in shock.
