Like nearly all online entertainment writers my week has gone something like this: "Dark Knight," "Dark Knight," "Christian Bale," "Dark Knight," "Comic-Con," and finally – "The Dark Knight." You would think I would be bored writing about how monster this movie has been but I'll tell you – I'm really not. See, I'm not terribly creative so the chance to write the same story over and over again all week long has been like taking a mini-vacation.
So here's my mandatory "Dark Knight" update, submitted for your approval: The Bat had another amazing day at the box office on Thursday, adding over 16.4 million to his domestic total. As of now, "Knight's" haul stands at a jaw-dropping $238,615,211 for its first seven days; and yes Virginia, that is a first week record.
The beast that Christopher Nolan built is now on track to be the first film to reach 300 million in only ten days. Just to put that feat into perspective – the former film grosses champ "Spider Man 3" took 19 days to break 300 million in 2006. This summer's "Indian Jones" and ""Iron man" took 40 and 48 days respectively to reach that mark.
If my math is accurate, "The Dark Knight" only needs to make a little over 60 million in the next three days and he'll have another shiny record to keep in the cave – should be easy considering his only second-week competition comes from Will Ferrell and something called "The X Files." But as he soars to a second week at number one and concludes his record-breaking 10 day run, remember - Batman isn't in it for the accolades. He's kicking box-office ass because he cares about all of us.
