Will Smith Is Captain America?

Will Smith Is Captain America?

It’s been a few weeks since we’ve heard anything further about Marvel’s proposed movie version of Captain America, but it looks like today the casting rumors are starting anew. MTV talked to actor Derek Luke, who has absolutely nothing to do with Captain America, but who still claims to know who Marvel has cast to play the character.

According to Luke, they’ve offered the part to Will Smith. Granted, in the comics Captain America is about the whitest white guy ever to wear spandex, but it wouldn’t be the first time a Marvel character has been cast colorblind. Sam Jackson played Nick Fury in the closing credits of Iron Man this summer, and even further back Michael Clarke Duncan played Kingpin in Daredevil. Will Smith’s public persona is Mr. All American, why not give him a promotion to Captain America?

For now, it’s just another one of those pesky rumors, at least until someone who’s actually involved in the film says something to support it.

Hmm is it a trend to turn white to black or black to white so that we think racism does not exist anymore in society...Whatever, it is so contrived. Well, imagine if Will Smith - Cap America and Robert - Ironman in a Marvel Civil War movie - Black vs White..lmao..I know colours don't matter, but sometimes they just over do it..How about turning Cap into a woman? So that we think sexual inequalities don't exist no more?

Will Smith's a Great Actor... But to Play Role As Captain AmeRica...??? No Offense but There is Still Role of Black Superhero that i Think Will can be part of.. Like "The Falcon", he is a partner of Cap in Modern Day or "Luke Cage" in the coming Avengers movie Maybe???. PLease Just Stay to the original COncept in the comic book, otherwise they will have to alternate the story.

Sam Jackson as Black Nick Fury, that's no surprise, as the movie itself was probably more linked on The "Ultimate" comic book..

I love Will Smith but seriously... Cap America? Is Marvel going desperate after DC slapped them over the head with the dark crusader.

This is just a stupid rumor that has spread like wildfire and it's 100% not true. I don't think Marvel Studios, who are making their own movies with very much respect to the source material would cast a person that clearly doesn't fit the bill at all.

Ok, I'm not being racist or anything but you can't have a black Captain America. He is know for being caucasian but Will could play something like the Green Lantern, besides, DC is the way to go, nothing marvel can do will match DC! Wasn't that film hancock about him being a superhero? You can't be two?!?! Someone like Daniel Craig!

i'd love to see Smith as Jon Stewart (the green lantern) that would be a fantastic movie or even Smith play Luke Cage or the Black Panther but not Capt America, even though steve rogers is a terrible comic book character if you gotta make it make it with some sense

i fully agree with what pumpnbeast says, is not fare to give the part to biggest actors wile you have lots of,good fitting actors to play the paper is just like that they have to fit in the part, they have to be chosen carefully. And that's what marvel does best.

  • I like Aaron Eckhart as Captain America. I wasn't so sure before, but seeing him play Harvey Dent (pre-Two Face) makes it seem like he'd be a good Steve Rogers.

  • ok, first things first, if anyone has read ANY of the ultimate series from marvel, like ultimate spider-man, ultimate x-men, ultimate elektra, and the ultimates, then you know that in that series col. nick fury is black, so that is something thats canon, but will smith as captain america?, that would ruin it. they need to pick someone who is fitting of the part, not some idiotic prat like will smith.

  • Sorry, but, this just isn't the right role and besides, he's already got Hancock 2 in a few years. He's been a superhero already and we know which one he is so it should just stay like that.

  • No offense to Will Smith - he's a fine actor - but I'm hoping the rumors of him being Capt America are false. For one, he's too old. Another, he's not BUILT like Capt America. The character, comes from WWII, and yes they were African Americans over there fighting in WWII. Captain America is a leader, an icon for the other soldiers to follow into battle. For Will Smith in that role, it's just too unlikely a plot. It'd be like making Batman/Superman a black man, or Black Panther/Luke Cage a white man. Some characters you just DO NOT mess with. I'm hoping they throw a relatively unknown actor into the part. Marvel Studios has made some great choices for Iron Man & Hulk, they're choosing actors who FIT the part, and not just giving BIG actors the role for the sake of selling tickets. Look at what happened with Wild Wild West, Batman & Robin (Clooney, Schwarzenegger, Silverstone), Steele (Shaq? Can he even act?). These are the things to consider when casting actors for a role.

  • i presonally wouldn't cast will smith as captain america....cuz for one thing captain america is like super white....the man wouldn't have choosen the black man back in the 40s to have a secret awesome experiment.....not that i'm being racist or anything, i'm just saying

  • I don't see it..
I think the best choice for Captain America is Matt Damon.
