Brett Ratner Unveils The Superman Movie That Never Was

Posted by SexiVixxEN 477 days ago
Once upon a time, Bryan Singer and Brett Ratner swapped movies – Brett got the third “X-Men” and Bryan got “Superman,” which in his hands was “Superman Returns” starring Brandon Routh. We all know how that turned out.

But what would have happened if Ratner had continued along his merry way and done the “Superman” he wanted? What would it have been about? Brendan Fraser, who saw the script written by J.J. Abrams, was impressed. So was Ratner, who filled us in on the storyline and casting plans.

“The original movie I was going to be a part of,” Ratner said, “took place on Krypton for about half of the movie. So it was much more otherworldly, and much darker, because there was a civil war on Krypton. You’d get more of the history.”

“The Death of Superman” and the art of Alex Ross.

“That wasn’t just darker, but cooler, in my mind,” Ratner said. “That was what we were going to model the visuals after. When you have to translate it to a cinematic world, it’s a whole different animal, and he’s one of the best Superman artists I’ve ever seen.”

If it’s as dark as Warner Bros. wants for their reboot of Superman , Ratner still has a shot at making it: “Maybe we can go back to it one day,” he said.

But sorry, Brendan Fraser, that’s not a shot for you, too. “I definitely agreed with Bryan Singer that you need an unknown actor,” Ratner said. “I was going to surround Superman with known actors, but it’s important to get an unknown. I love Tom Cruise, but to have someone like him who you see as Tom Cruise would be a mistake.”

What say you, Super-fans? Think “Superman Returns” would’ve been a better film in Ratner’s hands, or did you enjoy Singer’s vision? Let the conversation begin in the comments.

I own and watched every Superman ever made from Kirk Alyn to Brandon Routh, and I have to say that Routh did an outstanding job and guys like Tom Welling couldn't even lay a hand on him, So in my opinion since Alyn, Reeves, and Reeve are gone and Cain didn't do tho well that Routh is now Superman

Whoever be the superman, what ever be the story, let anyone direct, let it be a flop in the box office
    SUPERMAN WILL ALWAYS BE "SUPERMAN"
and no one can argue with that

You are all idiots. This film was merely a way to reintroduce the character into the modern age - and thats what Singer did. By modern, i mean update. Eg, Vis effects, darker story, new suit etc etc.

Now thats done, Singer can go ahead and make the action-orientated flick that he wants to do - kinda like X2.

Brett Ratner is OK, but Singer definitely has the vision for it. The cinematography was exquisite.

The kid storyline was a great idea and Singer had the balls to go there. For me, Superman Returns had the heart of a REAL superhero movie.

Routh was a friggin great Superman - great prescence and a good acting range. Quit complaining and give Singer a chance to finish his vision!

P.S., if they are going to reboot the franchise, KEEP ROUTH!

I liked Superman Returns, but the idea of having the movies first half start out on Krypton is cool.

Yes, Superman was a BORING as hell... Good, but BORING nonetheless! I think it may have turned out better in Ratner's hands!

I think the Superman Returns movie was still great! I like Routh as superman. He reminds me of ol' Reeve..

Superman reutrns had several faults, one was Kate Bosworth, second was having the kid, third was not enough of superman and fourth was that it was too much about emotions and that crap. Don't make it darker, make it lighter and more enjoyable featuring superman a lot more often giving batman a quick appearance maybe and a new Lois Lane. Superman Returns was ok, with the plane scene especially and we need more stuff like that in the next. I have a feeling the next superman will be just as good as the Dark Knight, it all depends on the cast and the story!!!!!

Superman Returns was great, I really don't see what the problem was with the movie aside from Kate Bosworth and the kid. Other than those factors it was a great superhero flick, much better than spidey 2 and 3.

The thing which makes it flop isn't the DIRECTION!

The cast, sorry to say Routh sucks, Bosworth is good, but not good. only Spacey is decent but way too old!

And second is the screenplay, Superman have kids? who wanna see that? and every little plot hole. so yeah there you go...

  • I liked the idea in Superman Returns (Superman returning to the world and finds out that we don't need him anymore) but the execution was bad. I wanted Superman to prove that we still need him by kicking so much ass but instead we got a boring love triangle.

  • Actually looks like a good idea. Here's something Brett would be good at beside Rush Hour films.

  • not only does superman sound a lot sweeter in ratners hand, that way singer couldve stayed with x3 and i know then that movie wouldve been a lot better. so it would been better for both movies.

  • i really liked superman returns but ratner's version sounds like it would've been really good, at least we'd be getting a different look into the superman universe

  • Singer's the much better director, but Superman Returns was an awful, boring mess....i can't imagine Ratner making one much worse, and at least the script he talks about actually sounds like it had something called ACTION....
    cheers
