Brett Ratner Wants a Joker Spin-Off

Director Brett Ratner (Rush Hour, X-Men 3) chatted with MTV News, expressing his interest in comic book movies and potential spin-offs that can be developed from the already established franchises.

"As a kid, Batman was my thing," Ratner said. "I'm a little jealous that I didn't get to direct it, although Nolan did a great job. But there are so many characters in the Batman series, so many characters that I love, that the opportunities for spin-offs are endless."

Ratner believes that the first spin-off should focus on the Joker, which Heath Ledger recently brought to life on the big screen. "Heath was great," he said. "But the Joker is a great villain. That's why Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger had so much to work with. And I think there will be another actor who can interpret that. It would be great to see [Robert] Downey [Jr.] as the Joker, for instance."

Clearly Ratner wants to handle one of these spin-offs. What do you think, can he be trusted to deliver a solid Joker film?

    You must be joking, we donīt want a Joker spin off, weīall know how the Joker become the way he are , we want "Batman 3", but without Brett Ratner, Christopher Nolan is the man and besides thereīs no actor as good as Heath Ledger was to play The Joker, Robert Downey Jr. as The Joker?     I don't like Ratner jus as much as the next guy. I RDJ's interpretation of the Joker wud be a great one. Do I think it'll top Heath's, No. But THere are a number of actors who cud be on par with Heath or Top It. The only thing Heath did Was Set The bar high. Anyone who cant see that is damn Naive

    Robert Downey Jr.'s voice cannot do Joker shit... Please Ratner... Burton brought Batman Movies to live, but Schumacher ruined it, Nolan boosted it out & reaching it's climax... Please dun be the 2nd Schumacher... U can continue yr Rush Hours like the long running James Bond franchise....

    Ratner is a money-hungry prick, he just wants to break some box office records. He needs to stay away from comic-book adaptations because he obviously doesn't respect the source material.
    A Joker spinoff would have been a great idea if Heath were still alive, I can't see anyone else playing The Joker for another 10 years.

  • No No No. Why should there be any spin-offs? History tells you that spin-offs usually suck, and any spin-off/sequel/prequel ruins the credibility of the original movie. Ratner is a douche, and so is anyone who greenlights a Joker spin-off!

  • Sounds like it could be a really good idea, or an incredibly bad one...like "Catwoman". Either way, there's no topping Heath Ledger as Joker. And leave RDJ to Tony Stark/Iron Man.

    Didn't Brett Ratner knows that Downey hated TDK for surpassing his Iron Man?Guess if he took the role, then I'd probably say that he had licked back all the spits he made.Shame on you.
