Lex Luthor is Back in "Superman Returns" Sequel

Lex Luthor is Back in "Superman Returns" Sequel

Fans have complained that Lex Luthor is not a strong enough villain to face off against Superman and that the man of steel needs to fight a more powerful evildoer in the "Superman Returns" sequel. Warner Bros agreed and has promised more action in the second installment, which they stated will be much darker. So why are they bringing Lex Luthor back?

According to The Independent, producers of the film will be paying Kevin Spacey "big bucks to reprise his role as Lex Luthor next year." It has been said that the sequel will begin shooting in 2009 to have the film ready by 2011.

What do you guys think, is it a good idea to bring Lex Luthor back, or should Warner Bros instead introduce a character like Doomsday into the franchise?

I think is a must, and come on U have on eof the best actors in history playing maybe the best villain in DC comics history (alone side The Joker), i personaly like the first one, but yeah it lacks of some action but, i really think they can do a great sequel to that movie, and also think they should keep Brandon Routh as superman but asking to go to the gym cuz he looks a bit skinnie in the first one....

I don't have a problem with bringing Lex Luthor back, as long as he's not the only villain. Superman has a wide variety of villains that haven't been introduced on the big screen, with the exception of General Zod. They should really take advantage of that! I wonder will this be for a direct SR sequel, the proposed Mark Millar version, or a hybrid of both?

A superman movie NEEDS Luthor. Not because of any super powers that he has that rival Superman's. It's the Man of Steel Vs. the evil, conniving, ruthless intellect of Lex Luthor. Brains Vs. Brawn as it were. Though it is usually the hero's brains vs. the villain's brawn in most other series. (That's not to say that Superman is not also intelligent.)

Though there is definitely room for bringing in a super villain that can actually do battle with our hero. But Lex needs to be in the mix somewhere, getting his greasy little mitts into things and making our hero's life more interesting. It worked in Superman II. They tried it again in Superman IV, but, let's face it, there were so many OTHER problems with Superman IV that you could hardly say whether that aspect of the story helped or hurt the movie on the whole.
