Russell Crowe has revealed that he piled on more than 50 pounds to get into character for his role in Ridley Scott's latest movie.
Scott asked the actor to bulk up to play a CIA boss in spy thriller Body Of Lies.
Crowe initially accepted, but said he later regretted his decision and would think twice before putting on weight for a role again.
"Ridley called up and said ‘Now, mate, would you mind putting on a significant amount of weight? I see him [the character] as an ex-athlete who has let himself go'. And I trust him so much, I say yes first and rationalise pretentious artistic reason later," he told USA Today.
"When I see my gut hanging between my legs, I don't know what I was thinking. I'm not sure I'd do that again."
It was rumoured earlier this week that Crowe will play both Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham in Scott's upcoming film Nottingham.
