A sequel to the George Miller directed animated flick Happy Feet is getting ready to start production and, according to The Age, will be made at a new digital production facility in Sydney.
The 2006 movie featured the voices of Elijah Wood, Robin Williams, Brittany Murphy, Hugh Jackman, Hugo Weaving, Anthony LaPaglia, Miriam Margoyles and Nicole Kidman and was set in world of the Emperor Penguins, who find their soul mates through song. It followed a penguin who cannot sing, but who expressed himself through dance.
The Age says the new digital production facility is expected to provide a significant boost to the local movie industry, which has been criticized for a lack of investment in recent years. The production will employ an average of 438 people over three years, which will include 230 computer-generated imaging artists.
The project still hasn’t been officially announced and it’s unclear if Miller will return to direct, although he has expressed interest in the movie.
Happy Feet won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature and earned over $350 million at the world wide box office.
