It was recently reported that director Catherine Hardwicke has not been resigned for new installments of the "Twilight" franchise. Instead, Summit Entertainment is currently negotiating with Chris Weitz (American Pie, The Golden Compass) to take over. In addition, the goal is to shoot the second and third films back-to-back.
Now, Bloody-Disgusting has learned that the script for "New Moon," the second film, has already been turned into Summit. So, the studio is now hoping that they can sign a director as soon as possible, in order to get the new movie into theaters.
The idea is to release these films Saw-style, one each year. So expect "New Moon" in 2009, "Eclipse" in 2010, and "Breaking Dawn" in 2011. Since there are only four books, the franchise will probably end there.
"Twilight" was a big box office success and Summit is desperately trying to rush things along while fans are still eager to see Bella and Edward on the big screen.
With such tight deadlines, does this franchise have any potential to ever be good?
