Stephen Norrington has signed on to write and direct a reinvention of "The Crow," based on the comic created by James O'Barr. Relativity Media is negotiating with producer Ed Pressman to acquire the film franchise and finance the film.

Pressman produced the 1994 Alex Proyas-directed movie, in which rock musician Eric Draven is murdered trying to rescue his girlfriend from thugs, and returns from the dead one year later to exact vengeance. Though the original became a gothic-style hit that grossed nearly $100 million worldwide, it is primarily remembered for a tragic accident in which star Brandon Lee was killed during filming.

For Norrington, "The Crow" deal marks the end of a long screen sabbatical. After making his breakthrough with the Marvel Comics hero "Blade," Norrington took on a big-budget comic transfer with "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen." The director has not made a film since.

Norrington said his "The Crow" version will be different than the film Proyas made. "Whereas Proyas' original was gloriously gothic and stylized, the new movie will be realistic, hard-edged and mysterious, almost documentary-style," he explained.

    The No's have it! J.Obarr didn't even want sequels to be made after Brandon's tragic death. The studio's won out and made a bunch of worthless follow ups. Now they plan to remake the best movie ever? SACRILEDGE!!!! There is no possible way you can make it better, it is perfect the way it is! Come up with an original idea outside of "The Crow" franchise. There is no way I want to see Jason Statham as Eric Draven...EVER!

    It's bad enough the so called sequels SUCKED.. can we just leave it alone please??

    lease don't make a remake!!! especially one that's "documentary-style"...where's the fun in that?...plus it just won't be the same without brandon..he was perfect, that movie was perfect, leave it alone!

    I'm a huge Brandon Lee fan and to remake his last movie it's wrong!! He put in so much hard work into The Crow and he was happy. Look at his last interview, he was so happy to get that role and made him a star. I know I won't see it! R.I.P. Brandon!!!

    leave this movie alone. it is a classic and brandon lee was perfect in it. i agree, when people watch the film they do remember brandon lee's death but it honors him as he left a masterpiece behind.
    if you mess with this film then you mess with a memory, so show some respect.

    you know it was just on the other night. DONT MESS WITH IT!!! leave it alone! IF an actor dies during the movie and its was able to be finished...leave it alone, dont ruin what HE left behind for us. show the respect for him, his wife and daugter. he was a good actor and played the part very well. DONT RUIN WHAT HE LEFT US!...... DOES THIS MEAN IN 14 YEARS THEY GONNA TRY TO RUIN WHAT HEATH LEDGER LEFT US???????????????
