Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland to Incorporate Stop Motion; Alan Rickman Talks About Being The Cate

When it was first announced, Disney said that Tim Burton’s adaptation of Alice in Wonderland would be filmed using a hybrid of live-action and performance-capture/computer animation. Well it appears that Burton is also employing stop animation as well. Alan Rickman, who plays the Caterpillar in the film, explains to MoviesOnline that his face is transplanted onto a completely animated caterpillar.

“So, it’s a mixture. The movie is a mixture of live action, animation, and stop motion, so it’s very complicated and I don’t think all three have been put together ever before,” reveals Rickman. “So I’ll be with a live action Alice. I will be a construct.”

I don’t believe that the three have ever been mixed together in one movie before (I’m sure someone will correct me in the comments). It also doesn’t sound like Rickman shot his part on the green screen stages at all.

Rickman tells Buzzine that he’s “only done the first stage of it, which is them recording me saying these lines quite badly. Then, somewhere down the line, they’ll have animated it and I’ll redo it.” He also reveals that Helena Bonham-Carter, who plays The Red Queen, is “in a costume and in makeup but her head is going to be made three times bigger than it actually is on top of the costume.”

    I love stop motion and Tim Burton is the king of it, not to mention a director of loads of fantastic films. I love the fact that he likes to work with the same actors in many a movie and i'm very excited about the Sweeney Todd cast appearing in Alice in Wonderland. I'm a HUGE fan of Burton's and i'm eagerly awaiting the release of this film.

    The last stop-motion flick I saw was "James" too. But I'm more than willing to give it a shot because it's Tim Burton!

    Oh Boy, Im not much into stop motion films, I actually hated chicken run, infact the only movie I ever really liked that had stop motion was "James and the Giant Peach", I hope the movie will be great with all those combined fx stuff- or whatever-whachamacallit-whatsits;

    Im a big Alice nut, but stop motion is just something that doesnt impress me.. Ok I know im being pessimistic... well.. I guess if it doesnt work right burtons film will still be the first to have joined all 3 thinggys-whatsits into one.

    nevermind me, I need my bed x_X!!
