Fantastic Four Franchise Is Dead

Fantastic Four Franchise Is Dead

Fanboys seem to love bashing any superhero movie which isn’t dark, gritty, and full of bats but I’m more than happy to admit I’ve had a lot of fun with the Fantastic Four franchise. Best of all, the movies only seemed to be on track to keep getting better. They made money too so you’d think a third film would be in the cards. Unfortunately with Hollywood’s rush to clone The Dark Knight, bright, upbeat superhero movies are probably on the way out. So it should come as no surprise to hear that FF star Chris Evans is running around pronouncing the Four dead.

The guys at JoBlo caught up with the former Human Torch out promoting his new, darker, more realistic superhero flick Push and asked him where Fantastic Four 3 stood. Evans response was, “I think they're done. They've closed the book on that franchise. I think if there was talk I think that I would've heard about it by now.”

Yep, he probably would have. The last movie, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer came out in 2007. If Evans hasn’t heard even a whisper about another one, then odds are the Fantastic Four’s run is two and done. Say goodbye to superhero fun.

Now, I don't agree that every comic book movie should be dark and gritty, but I do have to disagree on Fantastic Four. THOSE MOVIES SUCK. Sorry, I just had to get it out there. So did Daredevil and Ghostrider. And unfortunately Spidey 3, X3, and Wolverine were total letdowns. But I digress.

Fantastic Four was kinda boring. And Jessica Alba, although HOT, was just to damn whiney. Fantastic Four was Stan Lee's first comic team and deserved better. And I can't beleive what they did to Silver Surfer. He should have got his own movie, and still deserves one.

But I wouldn't mind seeing the Chris Evans return as Human Torch, but in a West Coast Avengers movie. Of course after an Avengers movie and sequel. So maybe a third or fourth Avengers movie, if it happens.

I for one, am sad by the fact that we won't get to see more Torch. Especially like the picture right here. :(

I think it's funny how Marvel is rebooting everything that isn't Spider-Man, X-Men, or Iron Man. With FF, they shot themselves in the foot in a number of ways, the worst being Jessica Alba and ruining Dr. Doom (a billionaire industrialist? Really?). ROTSS was slightly better, but the damage was already done. They should give it a decade or so, before they try again.

I kinda liked 'FF' for being a bit silly, after all it is a kinda silly comic...

Then that means they'll make a real badass film that'll finally get the best critical and audience approval. The Dark Knight and Iron Man set a huge standard. Fantastic Four can do it also!
