Zac Efron Promises to Marry Vanessa Hudgens

Zac Efron has promised to marry girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens, according to reports.

Efron is said to have proposed to Hudgens during a joint trip to Japan in late January, and the pair will tie the knot in 2010.

One of the driving forces between the proposal, according to the National Enquirer, was Hudgens' mother, Gina - who didn't approve of the couple living together before they were married.

A source says, "Zac is relieved to be out of the pressure cooker, because Vanessa's mom has been putting serious heat on him to make an honest woman of her daughter.

"She is old-school and doesn't approve of Vanessa living with Zac without some type of wedding promise.

"Zac really loves the current arrangement. He adores Vanessa, and they gel really well together.

"Gina already considers Zac part of the family, so she's happy that he proposed."
