Matt Damon: “The Academy Awards Gets It Wrong”

Posted by SexiVixxEN 266 days ago
When it comes to honoring films, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has it all wrong, Oscar-winning actor Matt Damon said in an interview with Parade on Thursday.

“I think that the best way to judge movies is, like, 10 years after they’re released. I think they should actually do the awards that way. I think they should have done the Academy Awards this year for movies from 1998.”

So instead of Slumdog Millionaire, filmgoers should be raving about Good Will Hunting?

Matt went on to say, ”I think it’s better to look at a movie and then step back and look at it again. I don’t think that the awards necessarily get it right. I think they get it wrong more often than they get it right.”

he's right,it's only with time you can only properly evaluate a movie!

Damon could be right in this case coz, it has been happening and it will go on like that, there is no right formula for choice of movie, 2day, coz they are chosen duty to 1st interest which is totally wrong, review a movie be4 u give in 4 it.....

i back up damon on this....

Is he really talking about Slumdog here? i think Slumdog is the only right choice of film to won the Oscar. he said from the last 10 years, and i gotta agree with him, let's see movies like : Shakespeare In love, Gladiator or A beautiful mind? Chicago anyone? The English Patient for God sake!

Oscar got it right from last 3 years IMO, The Departed, No Country and Slumdog..

Well, Mr. Damon has a point here. One of the characteristics of a great film is that it gets better everytime one watches it again, and that's a fact. I don't know if ten years is a good amout of time, but it is not relevant at all. The point is that I do agree that besides the business side of the Academy Awards, there's also a rush to pick films, and maybe they should take it slower. The proof is that there are plenty of articles about the Academy's "mistakes" over the years. Again, good point.

I think there is both a good and a bad aspect to this. Good because we would be able to test if certain movies are still lovable 10 years after they're released. Then we would be able to see if those movies really should be nominated and not other movies that were more popular than the previously nominated movies over the years. Bad because it would be slightly confusing and weird that we would be mentioning movies that were released 10 years ago. It would also be a little bit of work to record the movies that were made 10 years ago only to be mentioned again much later. Matt Damon does bring up a good point though. I don't disagree with him.

I agree, that's not a bad idea. I think you can appreciate a film and look at it with clearer eyes later on in life. And of course the Academy does have a penchant for getting it wrong more often than not

I get what he's saying but 10 years? I think the Academy need to take into account of what the public liked. A perfect film will be loved by all ... I didn't mind Slumdog Millionaire but it was appualing that it won best picture. I'm sure others agree that there were far better movies hardly nominated. They need to pick much more carefully and not pick the films that are not just culturally suitable.

Yeah that's a good idea. The Academy misses and forgets about the good movies a few months prior to the awards to begin with.
Besides, movie's are about opinion. You can't really get them "wrong". Best Picture can't be everyone's favorite movie of that particular year.
