Richard Linklater Creating a 'Spiritual Sequel' to DAZED AND CONFUSED?

Aside "Before Sunset" and his most mainstream film, "School of Rock", I really don't care for Richard Linklater as a filmmaker. I think he's so obsessed with people talking about the inanities of life and their rambling thoughts delivered in monologues that his movies tend to be grating, aimless, self-indulgent messes which have no end in sight. Even his acclaimed debut, "Slacker", becomes a chore about halfway through. I know his 1993 film "Dazed and Confused" is incredibly popular but I had trouble connecting with the characters and the situations because it seemed too seeped in nostalgia and the time period to really enjoy it (that being said, it's certainly worth revisiting since I saw it almost ten years ago).
But if you already enjoy the film, then you'll be excited to hear this news [via CHUD] that Linklater is considering creating a "spiritual sequel" to his popular film. "The movie, which he is shooting in and around Austin this summer, will be about the first weekend of college in 1980. So while thematically it'll bookend Dazed, it won't have any of the same characters (which makes sense, as all of the actors are decades older and would look weird pretending it's just four years later)."
So for fans of "Dazed", this is great news. For folks like me (or, let's face it, "folk" like me since I'm the only person I know who doesn't like the movie), we'll have to just reconsider our opinion of "Dazed" and see if it's as bad I as we (I) remember or if we (I) misjudged it.
