ShoWest: New Batman Movie Likely To Be Three Years Off

The cast of The Dark Knight have already been willing to talk about a sequel, even though it’s pretty likely not much has been plotted out yet. At one point you even had cast members talking about the characters planned for the third chapter in the new Batman story, going so far as to talk about actors being approached, even though Christopher Nolan admitted no work had been made in that direction yet.

The lack of real information hasn’t kept the cast from talking, but keep in mind that it may just be talk. That disclaimer aside, Katey Rich got the chance to talk to one of my favorite Dark Knight actors, Michael Caine, who admitted the third chapter may not be as close as we hoped.

Caine blames the delay on Inception, Christopher Nolan’s next planned movie. Nolan kind of did the same thing after Batman Begins. Everyone was crazy for an immediate follow up, and he went and made The Prestige. Now he’s taking time away from Batman to make Inception, which will likely put a third picture as far away as three years, according to Caine.

look i kno to many movies and yes dark knight was top 5 all time favorites mostly because of heath ledger. i dont think they should replace him he completely took that role and aced it. now for thise who say noone could look like ledger just look at jeff hardy from the wwe now he weres face paint and acts every week he would be the only choice for a replacement joker. now the riddler needs to be outrageous cause jim carrey was the funny ridler we need a twisted ridler...

I'd love to see the Joker in the next one but from Arkham ala Hannibal Lecter, whereby Batman has to seek his advice only for the Joker to keep screwing him around. And forget that crap about nobody else being able to do it, there are lots of actors capable of putting their own spin on the character: Adrien Brody, Ryan Gosling and Paul Dano (to name but a few) could all be brilliant.

This is kind of strange, sitting on a blockbuster like that. I guess the pressure is sort of on now to make a "worthy" follow-up to one of the biggest films in movie history. If Ledger hadn't died and the film hadn't been such a humongous success, the next installment would probably be out at the due time so to speak. Let's hope it's worth waiting for.

I hope not but if that is what is needed to somehow match 'The Dark Knight' then fair enough. It'll soon come round!
