We always knew that Nite Owl was the most sensitive of the “Watchmen” crime-fighting team, but Patrick Wilson’s newly announced crossover into the realm of comedy is really sealing the deal.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wilson is set to star in “Morning Glory,” a comedy from director Roger Michell for Paramount Studios. The actor joins an all-star cast that includes Harrison Ford, Rachel McAdams, Diane Keaton and Jeff Goldblum.
“Morning Glory” focuses on a pair of antagnostic anchors on a struggling morning show, played by Ford and Keaton. McAdams portrays the show’s up-and-coming news producer who tries to boost the ratings and reign the anchors in. Wilson will play McAdams’ love interest.
Of the “Watchmen” cast, Wilson’s career is probably one of the most versatile. In addition to the superhero film, the actor has starred in intense dramatic fare like “Little Children” alongside Jackie Earle Haley, his “Watchmen” costar and soon-to-be Freddy Krueger.
He also portrayed one of the leading roles in the adaptation of “The Phantom of the Opera,” the long-running beloved Broadway musical. If you thought Wilson’s fighting skills were impressive, just check out his vocal talents. With a voice like that, it’s no wonder he wooed the Silk Spectre!
Joining Wilson in the crossover from genre fare to grounded comedy is J.J. Abrams, director of the upcoming “Star Trek” film. Abrams will produce “Morning Glory” by way of his Bad Robot banner, which also produced “Cloverfield,” “Mission: Impossible III” and television shows “Lost” and “Alias.”
