I was under the impression that there was enmity toward the Hannibal Lecter franchise these days, but Contact Music reports that Anthony Hopkins and Ridley Scott will join forces again for a second sequel to Silence of the Lambs. You'll remember they teamed up for Hannibal, which made money but wasn't any good. Red Dragon, directed by Brett Ratner, was a remake of Manhunter, the original Lecter story, released in the mid-1980s, with Brian Cox in the lead role.
A Universal spokesman says, "Hopkins and Scott are both very committed. We like what we've got, and the revised script is really, really good." What do they have? Your guess is as good as mine. Apparently, if any of this is true, Clarice Starling will return but Jodie Foster will not. In her place would be Cate Blanchett, as good a back-up plan as there could possibly be.
But what form would the story take?
