IMDB’s The Top Rated Films of the New Millennium

IMDB’s The Top Rated Films of the New Millennium

Posted by SexiVixxEN 95 days ago
The Internet Movie Database have announced The Top Rated Films of the New Millennium, looking at the 15 films made since 2000 that IMDb users have rated as the best of the new millennium. Usually people are quick to write off the IMDb user ratings as fanboy controlled, but I was surprised to four foreign and three animated films on the list, films from Darren Aronofsky and Michel Gondry, in addition to the expected trilogy and comic book heros. Check out the full list after the jump.

Discuss: Forget the order of titles, as we could argue about that for a year… Which films shouldn’t have made it, and which films should be on the list, but aren’t?

15. Requiem for a Dream (2000)
14. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
13. Spirited Away (2001)
12. The Pianist (2002)
11. The Lives of Others (2006)
10. The Departed (2006)
9. Amélie (2001)
8. Wall-E (2008)
7. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
6. Memento (2000)
5. Up (2009)
4. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
3. City of God (2002)
2. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
1. The Dark Knight (2008)

The Dark Knight? Ha! Pathetic much. That film is so overrated. It's not that good, the storyline is a mess and it's not exactly a classic.

You can compare them all you like and there is no problem with that at all, fair dus Harry Potter series are good and they also won some Awards and were nominated for many. Its just saying that LOTR "sucks" is a travesty.

What do you mean not compare? Harry Potter and Lord of the rings are both fantasy and both made a huge amount of money. Comparing the two was done often back in 2001 to 2004. I'm not trying to argue which is better, I'm just saying the two film series have been compared a lot before.

so "bellbabyangel" you are saying that the Trilogy that received 30 Oscars nominations and won 17 of them sucks? I cant believe that someone is even comparing Harry Potter movies with LOTR trilogy. Pathetic.

A really great list. But I must disagree that The Dark Knight would beat *all* of the LOTR films as well as Amelie for the top spot. TDK was a wonderful film and a great ride, but that doesn't make it the best. (My vote: Return of the King) [ducks flying vegetables]

  • sweet jesus, how could anyone only like 3 movies on this list? that's actually terrifying to think of. i absolutely love every film on here i've seen (haven't checked out Spirited Away or Amelie)...a lot of great flicks here. i'm a bit miffed that too of my most favourite flicks of the decade, The Fountain and Polar Express, aren't there, but then i can understand why...not too many other people loved those films as much as me, sadly.
    cheers

  • Requiem for a Dream, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and City of God, I have yet to see. But aside from Dark Knight, Memento, The Departed, The LOTR Trilogy, and The Pianist (despite being the most depressing movie I've seen), I don't care for the rest.
