    Henry Winkler, best known for his role as The Fonz in US TV series Happy Days, has been confirmed to star as Captain Hook in the New Wimbledon Theatre’s pantomime this year.

    David Hasselhoff had been lined up to play the part but pulled out due to other commitments.

    This will mark Winkler’s UK theatre debut. “I am thrilled to have been asked to appear in Peter Pan, I love the story and I am really looking forward to being involved in a production which is targeted at a family audience,” he commented. “I understand that the audience participates and my co-star, Bobby Davro, is a veteran performer in these shows, so I am looking forward to having fun with the cast and the public. It is also a bonus being in the UK for Christmas as I really like the people, the culture and the food.”

    Peter Pan runs at the New Wimbledon Theatre from December 8, 2006 to January 14, 2007.
