It is difficult to believe it has only been six years since Chicago native, LisaRaye reluctantly agreed to audition for her first film role at the urging of a persistent girlfriend. Since then, LisaRaye’s continuous upward path has landed her appearance in six films, two television series, a stage play, co-hosting entertainment television series and signing on as one of the premier celebrity spokespersons for Hennessy, the world’s #1 producer of cognac.
LisaRaye’s acting debut was a film entitled Reasons. The director, Monty Ross, was also the producer of Spike Lee’s, Do the Right Thing, Mo’Better Blues, Malcolm X, Crooklyn and Clockers. Although a small as a secretary with three speaking lines, it prepared her for what was soon to come.
After seeing the budding actress in the late Hip-Hop artist, Tupac Shakur’s last video, Toss It Up, the esteemed Hip-Hop artist in his own right, Ice Cube, offered LisaRaye a role in his directorial debut, The Players Club.
In 1999, LisaRaye followed her success in The Players Club by landing a starring role in The Wood with Omar Epps, Taye Diggs and Richard T. Jones.
After filming Rhapsody, a BET movie, the channel asked LisaRaye to co-host the talk show, Live in L.A. In addition, she is the co-host of The Source: All Access, alongside Treach of Naughty By Nature, which is a Hip-Hop news and entertainment show, now in its third season.
In 2003, LisaRaye is among select actors on the Bravo reality series, The IT Factor, which follows a diverse group of talented young actors on the road to stardom.
The exceptionally beautiful LisaRaye was also voted “Sexiest Woman of the Year” by Black Men Magazine readers in both 2001 and 2002 – an honor no other female star has accomplished in the history of the publication. She was also voted one of the top five “Rising Female Stars” by Ebony Magazine in 2000, and has since co-starred with Debbie Allen in the film, All About You. - Actor/Actress/Director: LisaRaye ( photos )
