Hurt, of Marshalltown, was born Sept. 26, 1946, the middle of three daughters of Forrest "Tex" Supinger, a sales engineer for a packaging company, and his wife, Delores. As a child, Hurt performed in backyard circuses. "Mary Beth was always make-believing," her father said.
Hurt grew up in a green stucco house and describes her Marshalltown days as normal. She performed in school plays, graduated from Marshalltown High School, and studied drama at the University of Iowa, graduating in 1969. She moved to New York City, studied three more years at New York University's School of Arts, and made her New York stage debut in 1974. - Actor/Actress/Director: Mary Beth Hurt
