  • Description: Whilst in his musical phase, River was attracted to a movie which would combine his two loves of music and acting. It was “A Thing Called Love” in which his character James Wright, a guitar playing cowboy, sets out to woo Miranda (Samantha Mathis) away from her boyfriend (Dermot Mulroney). River wrote and sang a song “Lone Star State of Mind” in the movie. Speculation about his drug dependency on the set reached fever pitch, though River continually denied it despite his performance in the movie being less than satisfactory. He did develop an off-screen relationship with Mathis, even though his girlfriend Sue Solgot was waiting for him in Florida.
