British actor Robert Pattinson was born in London, England, on May 13, 1986. An avid and skilled athlete, he participated in such sports as football, skiing and snowboarding. In addition to his physical prowess as a sportsman, Pattinson also exhibited genuine talent as a musician; he plays both the guitar and keyboards.
His acting career began at the age of 15, when he appeared in a number of student productions. Subsequently, he joined the Barnes Theatre Company. During his tenure there, he played the lead role of George Gibbs in Thornton Wilder's Our Town; Lord Evelyn Oakleigh in Cole Porter's Anything Goes; and Alec in Tess of the D'Urbervilles.
Pattinson's first film role was as Giselher, brother of King Gunther, in Ring of the Nibelungs, aka The Sword of Xanten (U.K.) and Dark Kingdom: The Dragon King (U.S.). He next played the part of Rawdy Crawley in Vanity Fair, opposite Reese Witherspoon.
