BAGHDAD - Iraqi police commandos captured the leader of al-Qaida in Iraq in a raid in the northern city of Mosul, Iraqi officials said Thursday, in what could mark a significant blow to the Sunni insurgency in its last urban stronghold.
Iraqi Defense Ministry Spokesman Mohammed al-Askari said the arrest of Abu Ayyub al-Masri — also known as Abu Hamza al-Muhajir — was reported by the Iraqi commander in Mosul, where insurgents have sought to establish a foothold after being widely uprooted from Baghdad and surrounding areas last year.
The U.S. military in Baghdad said it was "checking with Iraqi authorities to confirm the accuracy of this information."
Interior Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Abdul-Karim Khalaf said the arrest occurred "at midnight and during the primary investigations he admitted that he is Abu Hamza Al-Muhajir."
Khalaf told the Iraqi state television that al-Masri was arrested during a police raid, but gave no other details.

On The Road Again...
Hey guys!
The east coast is gorgeous and blooming right now in springtime and it was great to be home for the week. New York is the ultimate city where art, glamour, culture and compassion come together in a really unique way... but maybe I'm somewhat partial to NYC as its my hometown!! :) Nonetheless, it never loses its energy and beauty. If you haven't ever been to "the big apple", try to go in the last week in April or the first week in May when the tulips line Park Avenue and the cherry blossoms are out in full force in Central Park... and everyone just seems happy. There is a Jasper Johns show now at the Metropolitan Museum of Art that is pretty cool, as well as the Costume Institute Heroes exhibit this month--both definitely worth seeing.
Last night, I got to honor my friend, Carmen Marc Valvo, at the Pratt institute of Design. Carmen is an incredible designer as well as a terrifically brave man and cancer survivor... |

Bruce Boxleitner, who played Scarecrow to Sabrina Duncan's Mrs. King in the mid-80s, has snagged a top-secret recurring role that was originally going to be modeled after Sen. John McCain. The character has since been reconceived, and now all I know for sure is that he'll be sharing scenes with a female series regular.
By the way, although it may seem like Heroes is getting ready to force-feed us another batch of newbies, an NBC insider insists that's definitely not the case. Yes, the show is introducing some new faces next season, but the primary focus, my source maintains, will remain "on the core characters from the pilot."
I think I speak for Heroes fans everywhere when I say, Hallelufreakinlujah. |

The IESB sat down with a group of journalists and talked with Christina Ricci about SPEED RACER and her role as loyal girlfriend TRIXIE!
Read the interview in its entirety below! SPEED RACER opens in theaters May 9th!
Q: Beautiful dress.
Christina Ricci: Thanks. It's Yves Saint Laurent.
Q: How did you like Trixie's fashion sense?
CR: I enjoyed it immensely. A lot of pink. Pink and red which is kind of awesome. I liked her clips and her makeup. It was really fun. It's fun to play someone who's a little bit cartoonish. They dressed me up like a doll, but then they let me go and fight people and race cars and fly a helicopter so it was fun.
Q: You've played a character that was a comic strip creation with 'The Addams Family'. Did you have to think twice on this or were you really eager to work with the Wachowskis?
CR: No, I didn't think twice. That didn't even occur to me. That was so long ago. I was like ten years old. So, no. I was just really excited. I wanted to work with the Wachowskis and I've been hearing about 'Speed Racer' for the past ten years and people have said for a really long time that I should play Trixie and that I look like Trixie. So I thought, 'Awesome. I'll go in and read for this.'
Q: Did you see the resemblance when you finally saw the source material?
CR: Well, people have told me that I looked like anime for a long time and so after a while you're like, 'Okay, fine.'
Q: What does that mean?
CR: I have big eyes and a small chin, I would imagine. You don't see it?
Q: I don't watch a lot of anime.
CR: Me neither.
Q: Can you talk about what it is in a script that makes you want to do a film? Can you talk about that process?
CR: Well, I think it's different with every movie. With this movie it was like, 'Oh, wow. A "Speed Racer" movie. That's exciting. It's exciting that I'm being called in to read for that. Oh, it's the Wachowski Brothers directing? I've always wanted to work with them.' So then you read it and make sure that there's nothing offensive in it and then it's kind of like a no brainer really. Of course I'd want to be in this movie. But with other scripts, it's like, 'Does anything in this movie seem like it'll be fun? Is there anything about this character that's challenging for me or something that I've never done before?' I think you're constantly looking for something new and different unless it's, as I said, a director that you've always wanted to work with or an actor that you've always wanted to work with or a genre that you're not often thought of for.

Here are some new promo pics from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull out Thursday, May 22.
Here’s the official synopsis via Paramount: The newest Indiana Jones adventure begins in the desert Southwest in 1957 – the height of the Cold War. Indy (Harrison Ford) and his sidekick Mac (Ray Winstone) have barely escaped a close scrape with nefarious Soviet agents on a remote airfield.
Now, Professor Jones has returned home to Marshall College – only to find things have gone from bad to worse. His close friend and dean of the college (Jim Broadbent) explains that Indy’s recent activities have made him the object of suspicion, and that the government has put pressure on the university to fire him. On his way out of town, Indiana meets rebellious young Mutt (Shia LaBeouf), who carries both a grudge and a proposition for the adventurous archaeologist: If he’ll help Mutt on a mission with deeply personal stakes, Indy could very well make one of the most spectacular archaeological finds in history – the Crystal Skull of Akator, a legendary object of fascination, superstition and fear.

SATURDAY, that's right just like the Bay City Rollers said, S-A-TUR-DAY Jon Favreau is doing a webcast on 97.1 Free FM with our good buddy Leo Quinones "The Film Freak."
If you are in the local Southern California area you can listen to the show this Saturday May 10th starting at 7:00pm PST.
Don’t live in the so call area? Don’t sweat it, Leo and the boys from 97.1 Free FM will be streaming the show live on on www.971freefm.com.
I know what you're thinking, "Robert, why in the hell would we listen to a radio station when most of the time they ask the stupidest questions?"
Well, I'll tell you, because Leo "The Film Freak" has done his homework and is sure to ask Favreau all the questions comic book fans want to know....I want to know!
Leo and I got on the phone today and he expressed his intentions to make sure he asks Jon the questions that the Comic Con crowd would like to know. I gave him a laundry list of questions that I would personally ask Favreau now that Marvel has announced their slate of movies including IRON MAN 2 and the AVENGERS films coming in the next few years.
Check out The Film Freak on Saturday night at 7:00pm PST either on the radio or online! |

The 30-year-old Hollywood hunk says the original script and final cut of the movie stayed more or less the same – except for one saucy scene involving a maid. "The first act of the script and the first act of the movie as it turned out are really close to one another," explains Demi Moore's toyboy husband who adds how he was delighted when he read there was a m?ge a trios in the script – but was doubly disappointed when the director decided to cut the scene completely. "The only thing they cut out was there was a three way with a maid that got cut out of the film, but that was in the script. I was really disappointed with that decision!" |

‘Narnia’ Director Prepares To Take A Back Seat For ‘Dawn Treader’ Threequel |

There are thirteen directors in history whose films have grossed over $1 billion domestically. James Cameron and Michael Bay were able to do it in seven movies. Peter Jackson took eight.
Andrew Adamson, meanwhile, did it in three.
So after two “Shreks” and two “Narnias,” who’s gonna begrudge him a little well earned vacation?
“I want to do as much as I can from somewhere on a nice beach,” he laughing, telling MTV that his involvement in the third Narnia, “Voyage of the Dawn Treader,” will be largely scaled back. “I am a director, I know what it’s like to have someone watching over your shoulder. I don’t want to be that person to Michael Apted, and I’m really intrigued to see what he brings to the movie.”
Perhaps the change is for the best anyway, conceded Adamson, considering the markedly different tone of the third novel.
“There’s an inherent change,” Adamson admitted.
Yeah, no kidding. “Treader” may read like a cross between “The Odyssey” and “The Knights of the Round Table,” but let’s not kid ourselves – this book is about Jesus. And I say that knowing that they’re ALL about Jesus in some way. If I remember correctly, Aslan even admits he’s Christ at some point - Lewis’ repeated denunciations of allegory be damned.
So, given that, what is Adamson most concerned about keeping in the film? Simple consistency, he insisted.
“I want to make sure that the third film is true to what was set up in [the first and second] films,” he said. “And I think [Michael] is willing to embrace that. He’s a good storyteller.”
I love the Inklings. That’s not really relevant, I just wanted to share. Sound off on “Dawn Treader” below.

The 43-year-old actor says shooting the Hollywood blockbuster was an "intense" experience, but is delighted directors the Wachowski brothers made him look good in leather.
Fox Said: "There were moments where I said, 'wow, this is pretty intense.' Honestly, this is one of the most terrifying experiences I've ever had. There are so many ways that wearing a leather suit can be very bad. But I had complete faith in the directors."
Fox says 'Matrix' creators the Wachowski brothers helped him visualise the world they were developing for the film.
He said: "I was trying to create this mysterious thing with a voice that was sort of anime. The way Larry and Andy wrote Racer X's dialogue, and the rhythm of his speech, gave me all these hints. You're just gathering hints as much as you possibly can. They did an amazing job of bringing those elements to me so that I could understand it."

The 'Sex and the City' actress wanted to keep her battle against the life-threatening disease secret but confined in her co-star as she was with her when she got the diagnosis.
Cynthia said: "I kept it very quiet. I told Kristin because she happened to be at my house."
Recalling the incident, Kristin said: "She sits me down in Cynthia fashion and says, 'I have something to tell you. I have breast cancer.' "
Cynthia says Kristin was in shock when she told her and she had to reassure the brunette beauty everything would be fine.
Cynthia told US TV show 'Extra': "She stood up in her chair. I couldn't get her down until I told her everything I was doing and assured her everything was going to be OK."
The mother-of-two - who reprises her role as lawyer Miranda Hobbs in the upcoming 'Sex and the City: The Movie' - quietly underwent treatment and she is now celebrating her one-year anniversary of being cancer-free.
Although Cynthia accepted the news she has previously admitted lover Christine Marinoni took it quite badly.

A source close to the actress said: "She's working really long hours and is ready to move on. She's a smart one.

Katherine can next be seen in romantic comedy 'The Ugly Truth' with Gerard Butler.
Since starring as Rachel Green in 'Friends', Jennifer has appeared in a host of films, including 'The Break-Up' and 'Bruce Almighty', but has failed to shake off her TV character.

Despite her bitter divorce and custody battle with Charlie Sheen, Denise insists that no one is allowed to speak critically of him when their two daughters, Sam, three, and two-year-old Lola are around.
She said: "I actually fired a nanny once, for bashing Charlie in front of the girls. Charlie is their dad, so if I insult their father it's an insult to them. I don't want them ever to feel torn between the two of us."
The actress - who recently won a court battle with Charlie to allow their daughters to be allowed to appear on her upcoming reality TV show - says she is in a "no win" situation regarding her summer series.
She added to US Weekly magazine: "If I have my kids on my show, I'm exploiting them. If I don't, people will think I'm not a hands-on mom. That's why it's very important to me that the girls are part of it."
Charlie and Denise split up in 2006 after four years of marriage. They have been involved in an ongoing custody battle since their separation.

That erudite and precisely spoken quizmaster Robert Robinson used to tell a story about Kenneth Tynan, the first man to use the f-word on British television. A rather grand elderly woman approached him at a party a few weeks after the incident. Tynan feared the worse, but she wanted to thank him. She had, she said, never heard the word before: “But now I use it all the time.”
Forty years on, everybody does, even on television. Anyone who watches Wife Swap will have long since concluded that variations of “f***” are now the only intensifiers in town. Indeed some people seem to swear more on screen than off. I have never met Gordon Ramsay, but those who have say he rarely swears in private. One of his programmes is called The F Word. Despite the hilarious ambiguity that F may stand for food, his catchphrase is “f***”. |

In adapting the 1960s Japanese anime television series, writer-directors Larry and Andy Wachowski have created a noisy, overlong, mind-numbing extravaganza that seems tailor-made for nobody but themselves and their twisted sensibilities.
Their longtime producing partner Joel Silver insists in the production notes (which are almost as lengthy as the movie itself): "`Speed Racer' is for everybody."
Seriously?
At two hours and 15 minutes, it's way too long for little kids, the only ones for whom this explosion at a crayon factory would seem even vaguely entertaining. Adults seeking the nostalgia of their own childhood will just be disappointed, because "Speed Racer" the movie bears little resemblance to "Speed Racer" the TV cartoon... |

Hey, isn’t that...? You know, that guy. The guy that always plays someone in the military. He was in, uh, Syriana, The Kingdom... Oh yeah! He was the father of the emo kid in American Beauty!
Throughout cinematic history, there has been a plethora of actors that, for some reason or another, never become a household name. So here is a cheat sheet of sorts, a brief encyclopedia on "That Guy."
After reading this you can impress your friends! Win the movie game (the one where you name an actor, someone names a film he or she was in, next player names another actor in that film, etc.)! Fill your brain with information that would otherwise be wasted with mathematics, history, and foreign languages!
By the way, "that guy" described in the opening paragraph is Chris Cooper. |

Posh to star in 'Alan Partridge' film? |

Producers of the in-development Alan Partridge movie are trying to get Victoria Beckham to join the cast as the tactless presenter's assistant, the Daily Star reports.
An insider claimed that the movie had stalled while producers debated who should be cast as Patridge's long-suffering assistant. Posh allegedly impressed the filmmakers with her "rapier-like wit".
"The Partridge film has been in pre-production for an age. One reason was because they couldn’t agree on Lynn," the source said. "Felicity Montagu, who played Lynn in the series, doesn't want to go to Hollywood and the film's backers decided they wanted a big name to replace her.
"It was also important to them to have a Brit and someone with a sense of fun."
The source added: "Victoria is a big name but no one expected her to have such a rapier-like wit. She's game to frump up for the role, too. She was practising her hangdog grimace to David on Monday. It was cracking him up."
Alan Partridge - played by Steve Coogan - first appeared on the Radio 4 show On the Hour in 1991. The character later appeared on The Day Today, Knowing Me, Knowing You and I'm Alan Partridge.

Breaking: Warner Bros Shuts Down Picturehouse and Warner Independent |
May 8, 2008 |

Sad news for the mini-major world of independent Hollywood, as Warner Bros has decided to shut down Picturehouse, the art-house/indie/foreign arm of New Line. But the bigger news is that WB also decided to close Warner Independent Pictures. The real problem is that the two companies had yet to find out a way to make a profit. So not only was Funny Games one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen, but it’s also partly responsible for the death of a good mini-major. I’m not quite sure if this means that Warner Bros/New Line is out of the art-house/indie/foreign business, or if they will continue to distribute/produce those type of films under the Warner Bros brand/arm? It sounds like New Line might go on to represent lower budget genre films.
In a statement, Alan Horn, president & COO of Warner Bros. said, “With New Line now a key part of Warner Bros., we’re able to handle films across the entire spectrum of genres and budgets without overlapping production, marketing and distribution infrastructures. After much painstaking analysis, this was a difficult decision to make, but it reflects the reality of a changing marketplace and our need to prudently run our businesses with increased efficiencies. We’re confident that the spirit of independent filmmaking and the opportunity to find and give a voice to new talent will continue to have a presence at Warner Bros.”
Picturehouse had made a name for itself in recent years with films like The Orphanage, The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, Rocket Science, Pan’s Labyrinth, and A Prairie Home Companion.
Warner Indepedent Pictures filmography includes: Before Sunset, March of the Penguins, Good Night, and Good Luck., The Science of Sleep, A Scanner Darkly, The Painted Veil and In the Valley of Elah, among many others. |

Madge's French kiss with girl |

IT just wouldn’t be a proper MADONNA gig without a little bit of erotica.
But this snogging trick she is pictured doing in Paris on Tuesday was a bit old hat.
Madge’s original stage kiss with BRITNEY SPEARS caused a minor meltdown back in 2003 at the MTV Video Music Awards in California.
The Queen Of Pop puckered up again after pulling a “female fan” out of the crowd during her second album showcase for Hard Candy in the most romantic city in the world.
Call me cynical, but she’s a pretty good-looking fan to find on the front row of a concert.
I doubt Madge will get the same result at her gig for Radio 1 gig in Maidstone, Kent, at the weekend

Robert Downey Jr Not a Lock for Iron Man 2 |
May 8, 2008 |

Yesterday we ran a report about how director Jon Favreau is not yet signed on to Iron Man 2. We noted that most of the stars have contract stipulations which allow up to two-sequels, concluding that Robert Downey Jr. is signed on for the sequel. Well apparently while that is the case, Downey Jr. is not yet a lock.
Marvel Studio chairman David Maisel refused to confirm Downey’s participation in the announced sequel during Wednesday’s rst-quarter financial results conference call. And when Entertainment Weekly asked if Downey was contractually signed to the announced Iron Man sequel and Avengers movie, the star cryptically replied:
“I really don’t know. What I’m on board for right now is the ride home. I don’t want to start talking out of my league, because that would have certainly been my inclination in the past. I kind of know how to keep my teeth together a little better than I used to.“
Apparently since the movie outperformed expectations, THR claims that Marvel will have to sweeten the pot to reward the movie’s star, a common industry practice, before Downey is officially aboard the sequel which he’s already contractually obligated to make. Josh Tyler said it best:
“See, when you or I sign a contract, we are expected to uphold it. But that’s only because we aren’t rich and in demand. When you’re rich and in demand, the rules don’t really apply to you.”
The good news is that Marvel plans on sitting down with Downey and Favreau later this week to talk about a sequel before hiring writers for the project. Apparently Marvel has a general plan for the sequel’s storyline. It’s expected that both Downey and Favreau will return for the sequel. |

Ellen Page Trades Her Sportcoat For A Corset |

Ellen Page is probably hoping to avoid being typecast as the wise-cracking, deadpan youngster like the character she played in the Academy Award winning comedy Juno by taking on a period piece. She'll be starring in yet another iteration of Jane Eyre.
For the love of all that is holy, is it really necessary to remake this story yet AGAIN? If you look up "Jane Eyre" on IMDb, then you'll see that there have been twenty or so versions of this particular tale made into a movie or miniseries. It's ridiculous, but at the same time, the damn thing wins awards pretty much every time. |

"Thor" Loses Director |

During a conference call, Marvel reported their strong first-quarter financial results, and revealed a bit of information about their upcoming movies.
"Iron Man 2" is scheduled to appear in theaters on April 30th, 2010 and while the company has general ideas of where it wants to take the sequel's story, it has yet to confirm Robert Downey Jr's and Jon Favreau's participation. Marvel will be sitting down with the two men this week before hiring writers. It seems that Downey's and Favreau's return will depend heavily on whether the studio can increase their pay.
After "Iron Man 2," the next movie will be "Thor," which is scheduled to hit theaters on June 4th, 2010. At this point, Marvel is waiting for a script polish from Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend). And even though we have read countless news articles and interviews with director Matthew Vaughn (Stardust), it appears that he is no longer attached to the project.
Speaking about the movie, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige described "Thor" as a period fantasy in the vein of "The Lord of the Rings." "It's very much a Marvel superhero story but against the backdrop of nothing you've seen before," he said.

If Ashton's RomComs Aren't Your Cup of Tea, What About a Punk'd Movie? |

Oh, Ashton. He's the little train that just keeps on trying. At least this latest bit of news doesn't have anything to do with romantic comedy. That, at least, is a plus. According to Ace Showbiz, Ashton Kutcher visited Ryan Seacrest's radio show yesterday and told the host that he's starting to think about making a feature film of Punk'd: "I was actually walking down the street in New York yesterday and thought, 'What if I did Punk'd: The Movie? Like a full on feature film of Punk'd.'"
But it also seems to be more than just the passing notion that he suggests. Kutcher went on to say: "I got a plan. But if I reveal the plan then everyone's going to know when it's going down." To me, that says that he's planning one big, full-scale trick on a whole lot of his celebrity friends.
I must admit: I've watched a few episodes back in the day and they can be funny, in the same way any elaborate joke is. But can it make a good feature film? Sure, Jackass headed to the big screen a few times, but that's a whole different sort of film. Shocked celebrity faces and laughter isn't quite the same thing as rabid stupidity in action with crazy injury.
But, what do you say? Wanna get Punk'd? |

First Look: Josh Brolin as George W. Bush |

The cover of next week's Entertainment Weekly will feature a shot of Elizabeth Banks (40 Year Old Virgin) and Josh Brolin (No Country For Old Men) as George W Bush and Laura Bush from the upcoming Oliver Stone film, entitled "W." Brolin is almost unrecognizable as the current President. [view pictures below]
Stone has publicly promised the biopic will be a "fair, true portrait of the man," but already there are those accusing him of the politics of personal destruction — and, worse, of trying to influence the election by painting the current Republican administration as reckless doofuses. Naturally, Stone vehemently denies all charges. "Bush may turn out to be the worst president in history," he declares. "I think history is going to be very tough on him. But that doesn't mean he isn't a great story. It's almost Capra-esque, the story of a guy who had very limited talents in life, except for the ability to sell himself. The fact that he had to overcome the shadow of his father and the weight of his family name — you have to admire his tenacity. There's almost an Andy Griffith quality to him, from A Face in the Crowd. If Fitzgerald were alive today, he might be writing about him. He's sort of a reverse Gatsby."
The rest of the cast includes Thandie Newton as Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Ioan Gruffudd as Tony Blair, Rob Corddry as Ari Fleischer, James Cromwell as George Herbert Walker Bush, Ellen Burstyn as Barbara Bush and Jeffrey Wright as General Colin Powell.

'Zoey 101' Star Celebrates Baby Shower with Big Sis Britney |

This week, OK! Magazine was the first to get the inside scoop on what went on in the Serenity mansion of the Spears family, where the 17-year-old Jamie Lynn Spears celebrated her baby shower with family and close friends, including her previously absent big sister, Britney Spears.
It was previously reported that Britney and their mother, Lynn, were away from home in April, when the Zoey 101 star celebrated her 17th birthday with just her hubby and daddy-to-be Casey Aldridge, 19. Rumors of animosity between Jamie Lynn and the rest of the Spears family began circulating after her birthday, but they are now dispelled after Britney and the rest of the family showed up in Kentwood, Louisiana for Jamie Lynn’s baby shower.
After months of being apart, the Spears sisters were indeed happy to be reunited. The two immediately hugged upon seeing each other again.
“She just ran up. She obviously couldn’t pick me up,” Jamie Lynn said, probably relating to Britney picking her up when she was younger. “We gave each other a big hug. It was a really good feeling.”
Warm affection is indeed a good feeling, and it has been quite a long time since we last saw them giving some love.
Jamie Lynn tells OK! Magazine that the two exchanged words, “I love you. I’ve missed you. It’s so good to see you.”
Jamie Lynn, who’s currently carrying the first female Spears baby, also received some sisterly advice from Britney, who told her, “There are going to be some long nights, but it is completely worth it.”
