I was a HUGE fan of the original and part of it's appeal was the sense of love that the family had for each-other. Mother & daughter in particular. While this version starts out feeling like a comparable homage...it has none of the heart or soul that the first one had. Not to mention the fact that there was little to no build up to the daughters abduction. I left the theater angry because the potential was there.

It's a performance that if done poorly could have come across as over the top are cartoonish, but Danes nuanced performance brings the quirky Grandin to life in a very believable, moving yet empowering way.
The supporting cast (particularly Ormond & O'Hara) are also superb.
In addition to the great acting, the film was edited and enhanced in a delightful way, that really helps the viewer have a better understanding of the complex way that Grandin's (brilliant) mind works.
An exceptionally good film about an exceptionally brilliant woman.

I will say that while it did a great job of capturing the essence of the original films, it was lacking the "hardcore sensory overload / punk rock" feeling that the first two films had. Not necessarily a bad thing...I just missed that feeling.
