ABOUT ME
I am here simply because I love films, I consider myself to be an avid film fan and wish to share my interest and views with like-minded people and learn more about films and everything relating to them. If other people are here to use it as a dating site, no problem, but it's not the reason I'm here. RECEIVING INVITES My current friends list is mainly made up of people who genuinely like films and know a fair bit about them. That's what I look for in my Flixster friends, the list below shows what I look for in other peoples profile and what I look for from invitations:
1. You are over 18 years old and show your age on your profile 2. You are genuinely here with an interest in films 3. You have more than 1000 ratings (hopefully much more) 4. You have over 100 reviews 5. You have a profile pic, (there are lots to choose from) 6. You should also have a full profile too 7. You are not widget crazy I believe any true movie fan would not find this offensive. If you have sent me an invite recently, which I have rejected, sorry, but it'll be because your profile doesn't have the above mentioned. CONVERSATIONS Feel free to send any film related conversations, I'll be glad to pass them on, you may have seen one or two of mine flying around, they're usually titled 'Another convo about films..........' It's a great way of hearing other people's views on films and learning about good films in unfamiliar genres. To those of you who send chain letters, I'm sorry they will just be deleted and won't be sent on to my Flixster friends regardless of what the consequences supposedly are. FILMS I love to watch Thrillers, films about Serial Killers - fact or fiction and films based on true stories. I’ve recently started looking into unfamiliar genres, some of which are sub-titled films (particularly Asian cinema), old Classics and I'm also revisiting the Horror and Anime genres. I’m not really a girly girl and so I really can’t bare Chick flics and don’t think I can ever be turned around on that one. Not a huge fan of Sci-fi, but I have been known to watch the odd one every now and then. I’m happy for any recommendations from people for any other type of films as I’d like to broaden my range. I have lots of film lists below, it’s my challenge while I am on this site to watch all of the films listed. After reaching a collection of around 600 dvd's, I've decided to quit buying for a while, I still have around 100 of them to watch, that I've not yet seen and then I should do the sensible thing and rent them! (Easier said than done, I'm a little addicted to ordering dvd's online). ACTORS A good actor to me is someone who works hard at their role and becomes the character that they are playing. I believe that there are very few actors out there that do this, but, here's a selection of actors with individual performances where I think this has been met: Robert De Niro - Cape Fear Robert De Niro - Taxi Driver Paddy Considine - Dead Man's Shoes Anthony Hopkins - Dr. Hannibal Lector Charlize Theron - Monster Ed Norton - American History X Billy Bob Thornton - Sling Blade Hillary Swank - Boy's don't cry (There are more, but these are the ones that quickly spring to mind). It's pretty rare to find those sort of performances, but I would choose performance over popularity every time. For me there are two actors who are consistently great at this; Robert De Niro and Paddy Considine, (my top two favourite actors). FAVOURITE FILMS BELOW I rotate these from my favourite films list, so that users have something different to look at, so they are not always my top 6, just 6 from my top film list. SKINS My profile skin always reflects the last highly rated film that I've watched. MUSIC Music is also a big part of my life, I like a vast range of music styles, but love the singer/songwriter types right from the early 70’s up to present. Here are some of the others: Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Nick Drake, Alanis Morissette, Sheryl Crow, Damien Rice, U2, T-Rex, The Beatles, The Doors, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Sam Cooke, Guns & Roses, Credence Clearwater Revival, Queen, The Kinks, David Bowie, Jimmy Cliff, Eric Clapton, Simon & Garfunkel, R.E.M, Coldplay, The Who, Stereophonics, Pink, Ben. E King, The Kooks, The Eagles, Nirvana, Chrissie Hynde, Tracy Chapman, Blondie, Rod Stewart, Dusty Springfield, Red Hot Chilli’s, Pulp, Snow Patrol, Nick Cave, The Verve, Razorlight If you like any of the above music, you may wish to take a look at my favourite videos, I have many of the artists on there. I am currently trying to get Flixster to list more Music dvd's and Stand up dvd's, I know this is a film site, but they have some listed here already and it saves us having to go to other sites for it, so it should be in their favour. ![]() Create your own visitor map! STAND UP COMEDY I love the British comedy scene, my favourite comedian of the moment is Lee Mack (the videos are too large to embed - go to You Tube if you wanna check them out), here are some other favourites: Lee Evans, Tim Vine, Peter Kaye, Bill Bailey, Jack Dee, Dara O'Briain, Dermot Moran, Ed Byrne |

Once Upon a Time in the Midlands
R
Been waiting for a while to watch this and found it hard to get hold of. You can certainly see the 'Shane Meadows' stamp on this one, but in comparrison to his other films, it doesn't quite measure up. Meadows himself, is pretty aware of this, as he has spoken of this in interviews.
That being said, it's a light entertaining film with some great British actors and although that worked to a certain degree, Meadows talent lies in being able to pick fresh talent/untrained actors creating a gritty life-like situation. This was more of a 'roughed up rom-com'
I did like the use of the talk show though, which strangely hasn't been used in any films that I am aware of.
Miami Vice
R
I lasted half an hour and I think that was stretching it, it's not often I can't see a film through, especially considering it starred Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx, who have proved to be much better actors than this film allowed, I was extremely dissapointed.
I've never watched the tv series that the film was based on and so, of course I have no comparrisons to make.
The Green Mile
R
This is certainly my favourite Stephen King adaption to date. The story is so original and all characters are developed so well, whether you love them or hate them.
I think most people would have taken to the character of John Coffey and felt the bitter/sweet of the story.
Also a quick look at the set and talk with Stephen King on the special features, which is worth a look.
The Crimson Rivers (Les Rivières pourpres)
R
This French speaking, English sub-titled film, was a refreshing enjoyable watch with superb performances by Jean Reno and Vincent Cassel.
The only bad for me is that I don't think it will reach the desired audience purely because of the sub-titles which is a shame.
Fanny and Elvis
Unrated
I must be sotening - a romantic comedy and not a bad one at that. Starring many known British actors and with a clash of classes, this is certainly on of the better rom-com's in my opion
Nell
PG-13
A unique and original film, Jodie Foster plays a great part in this and is a very intersting story.

Dead Man's Shoes
Unrated
Gritty, emotionally powerful, raw and what British Films should be made of. With an almost frightening reality to it, none of the cast could be faulted in this and the acting was of such a high standard that parts could have been mistaken as a documentary. VERDICT: An absolute must see.
2.
Amores Perros
R
Utterly brillient! Completely worthy of all it's praise. If you like films where various stories intertwine then this is an absolute must. The acting, the plot and pretty much everything about this film was gritty and realistic. VERDICT: You do need patience with this film, but one I definitely recommend people to see
3.
The Silence of the Lambs
R
Certainly my favourite Jodie Foster/Anthony Hopkins role, this is my genre, what could be a better story than to have a Serial Killer, profile another Serial Killer? This is a film that sets a benchmark for all other Serial Killer movies. Also, on the second disc of the dvd is 'A Making of The Silence of the Lambs' which is pretty interesting and well worth a watch, if you like special feature
4.
Mystic River
R
An absolutely outstanding performance from Sean Penn, from a pretty powerful film directed by Clint Eastwood. The emotion came across on screen very well and the story itself was original and unpredictable. VERDICT: An absolute 'must see'
5.
Babel
R
Had absolutely no idea what this film was going to be about, but with so many recommendations I had to watch it. My only complaint about this film, if any, would be that it was ever so slightly drawn out, however I'm not sure the desired effect would happen if it wasn't. The film itself reminded me of 'Crash' in the style of the filming, but not by content. The storyline is actually a very simple one, but very cleverly done. I've seen many a sub-titled film, but not one that shows more than one language being spoken. There was one particular part, I thought was especially good, when filming as if through the deaf girl's eyes. VERDICT: A fantastic film, unlike any other storyline, give it a watch, I shouldn't think there would be many dissapointed with this one.
6.
Cape Fear
R
This 1991 version of Cape Fear, has to be one of the best remakes ever, especially as the original was so good. Not Scorseses usual style of film, but DeNiro is outstanding as lead character Max Cady, a role in which DeNiro researched and built up the part to play including going to prisons to pick out tattoos. Great performances also to Juliette Lewis and Jessica Lange. Anyone who hasn't yet seen this film is in for a real treat, as although this is a film I watch over and over, there is nothing like the instensity I felt the first time of viewing.

Camp Out
by BrianI wanted to see this documentary because its subject are so different from. Ten campers trying to reconcile their Christian faith and their homosexuality.
I never had that problem because religion isn't a big part of my life at all, but it was interesting to see, and would be good viewing for gay teens dealing with the same issues.Maybe for you, maybe not for you but a fairly well done documentary. You may know people that you could tell them about this.
